The two nurses featured were based on Renee Lemaire and Augusta Chiwy, the “Angels of Bastogne”. Renee was killed after rescuing six wounded men from a burning building and going back for a seventh. Augusta survived the war and died in 2015. There’s no evidence that Eugene and Renee actually met, but the scriptwriters included the nurses in tribute to them.
