Blithe was one of the most highly trained troops ever to go to war , the requirements just to get to jump school were very high , once there the drop out rate was again very high . He will have been in numerous live fire exercises . Therefore I think his hysteria was not caused by cowardice but more likely the result of other factors . 1. They were given Dramamine for motion sickness side effects including drowsiness , and blurred vision , apparently they had not had it before , if indeed it was Dramamine . So they had no idea how individuals would respond to it in moments of huge stress. Second . They were dropped too low and at too higher speed , resulting in many injuries, Blythe may well have had serious concussion, which again affects Vision equilibrium mood and emotions . As you may know now Blythe fought in Korea with distinction , so I believe he was not paralysed by fear but suffering from something we don’t know about , the fact that the producers got his history wrong suggests that his story was not well researched .

He died while on active service in Germany in 1967 from complications arising from a perforated ulcer. The mistake came about because a couple of Easy Company survivors confused the death of another paratrooper with a similar name.
