interestingly I too have suffered computer problems over the past few days. I wanted to replace the low capacity OS M.2 with a 2tb ssd. So I cloned the smaller to the larger and swapped them. For some reason the computer wouldn't start so I had dig through the drives to find an old Win 7 drive and got it up and running from that. I then started searching for the old backups of windows. Found them and copied the back ups to another drive for safety and then I got ready to restore windows. At which point I discovered that I didn't have internet access so I started fixing that. Uninstalled and reinstalled the network, replaced the router (I've accumulated old ones) nothing worked. The laptop wouldn't work either. Strangely the tablet did work. I could also connect the computers to the internet via the mobile data on the phone. I started disabling the firewall software. Made no difference. Then I disabled the VPN (for some reason it had turned on) and hey presto internet again. I believe some of the ISPs in the UK now recognise and block access via VPN gateways so beware! EB I feel your pain!
