John Sullivan’s father worked as an apprentice installing central heating and they were working in a manor where they needed to take down a chandelier and this situation did end up happening. John found it funny, thought his father didn’t because it cost all the men their jobs, so when this episode aired, John was dreading the phone all he was going to get from his father over the ending. Fortunately, when he did get the call, his father just said ‘Alright, it was funny’.

Nicholas Lyndhurst (who plays Rodney) spoke about that scene with the chandelier, and said that the chandelier used cost £4000 and so could only do it in one take, and the producer said that if anyone laughs on set, they would be fired. But when they did the take, Nicholas said that he could hear the production team sniggering, and when the scene was over he went ballistic at them 😆
