Doctor Who New Earth

Comments

You mentioned Torchwood the last episode so figured I'd say. It's best to start that once this season of Dr Who is finished as it has spoilers for this season. Thing with that is you gotta finish the 1st season of Torchwood BEFORE episode 11 of season 3 of Dr Who. One warning about Torchwood though, the 1st season is...not the best, watched another guy react to it and he couldn't stand the 1st season and it certainly wasn't as good as I remembered lol, but the 2nd season onwards is very good! It's a very dark show at times and the characters are...let's say polarising 😅.

Agree with your observations. Not one of the best episodes but some good moments. I think it just suffers from the fact it’s supposed to be the first proper episode of Series 2 now the Doctor’s changed his face, and he spends most of it possessed by Zoe Wanamaker. That being said the Face of Boe moments are the best in the episode. The speech referring explicitly to the Doctor, calling him “the lonely god”, very melodramatic moment with the music that always gives me chills, one of my favourite quotes from the whole show. But a decent episode regardless.

Compared to some of the stories to come maybe this was a bit weak but still enjoyable, the strength of the show is being able to transport you anywhere anytime with various Doctors and their individual quirks.

totally agree. there are some banger episodes in series 2 (won't name any for spoiler reasons) and the finale is very solid imo. but series 3 and 4 is definitely where the show really shines in RTD's run and has the best stories. probably the most creative concepts i've seen from any singular show tbh.

Interesting idea for a story, with some of the more horrific moments of plague and disease countered by the comedy of Cassandra entering first Rose’s body and then that of the Doctor’s! This is probably the weakest opening season story during RTD’s initial run, and I feel that the next episode would have been a stronger story to open the season with! For me, personally, I don’t think, overall, that the 2nd season of NuWho stories is as strong as it’s 1st season stories under Eccleston, but there are still some that match them for emotion and spectacle! For many fans, both old and new, NuWho seasons 3 and 4 are where the show really finds it’s feet, where there is just story after story that have become fan favourites and will be viewed now, and in the future as classics of NuWho, and Doctor Who in general! Alan, you’ve got some amazing stories to look forward to!
