Pertwee from the classic series, and Tennant from the new Who for me. At the end where you see him choosing his new look from the Tardis wardrobe, was a real throwback to the classic series. The look of the new Doctor was all part of the fascination of the regeneration, and if you watch enough classic Who, you will see they got weirder as they went. :-)

2023-08-07 20:48:18 +0000 UTCIt's jarring when the Doctor regenerates, especially your first time and if you love the previous Doctor, but you'll get used to it. Tennant really is spectacular. I'm so happy to be going on this journey with you😊

2023-08-07 16:34:06 +0000 UTCExcuse me, second rate Doctor? I mean I’m a big Tenth Doctor fan myself, he’s my favourite Doctor, but I’m not going to tolerate Eccleston being called second rate. What about him is second rate? His northerness? His style? His acting? His writing? Because while his outfit was pretty simplistic, his writing was not disgraceful. He was the PTSD Doctor, the traumatised survivor of the Time War that needed bringing back from the brink. If it wasn’t for his run as the Doctor, revived Who would never have generated the buzz that it did to take it further when Tennant came on board.

2023-08-07 13:10:30 +0000 UTCSo Russell T Davies’ writing once again shines with his political allusions to the Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher. Russell wanted her to become almost like the Thatcher of the Doctor Who universe, in the way she orders the destruction of the Sycorax spaceship even though it’s leaving Earth, which alludes to Thatcher’s actions in sinking the Belgrano during the Falklands War when it was outside the exclusion zone of war in 1982. And the Doctor saying “Don’t you think she looks tired” is also a Thatcher reference. Towards the end of Thatcher’s premiership (marked by privatisation of public services, defeating trade unions, deindustrialising hard industry like coal mining, one of her aids had reportedly stated how tired she was after her tenure as PM in contrast to her status as the Iron Lady during a period of British political history that irrevocably changed the country, comparable here to the talk of Jones ushering in “Britain’s Golden Age”. But I hope you enjoy Tennant. These are early days, it only takes off from here, but already he’s got some iconic moments under his belt, the “I DON’T KNOW!” had the nation laughing fit to burst as did “The Lion King” bit. Regeneration was and still is one of the coolest ideas in science fiction. It was introduced to the show way back in the day to allow it to stay fresh with a new Doctor every few years or so often, with new personalities, new ideas, exploring various depths to the character. It is still the same individual, but personality wise he’s a different man.

2023-08-07 12:34:33 +0000 UTCYou can see David Tennant in season 1 of Marvel's Jessica Jones, he was really good in thatas a baddie.

2023-08-07 12:33:37 +0000 UTCdon't worry, you'll end up loving david! he quickly fits into the role really well. a lot of fans consider him to be the best doctor, either for the revival or for the entire show. for me he's my second favourite of all time. as for torchwood... no spoilers of course but you'll learn more about it in series 2. don't feel pressured to watch the spin-off in any timeframe because it doesn't really matter much. the main show explains everything you need to know. however, the best time to start with the spin-off would be after the end of series 2 of doctor who. love that you're enjoying the show though, mate! it only gets better from here! :)

2023-08-07 12:31:23 +0000 UTCgreat reaction Alan episodes 5 and six, eight and nine, and twelve and thirteen are the double episodes in this series. I don't know if you caught the Arthur Dent reference in the episode as a reference to the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, another short lived cult sci fi series based on the books by Douglas Adams, there was a film a few years ago but the tv series was better imo.
