Hi Alan, I have really been enjoying your reactions for the past few months. I think your commentary has been very insightful and compassionate in a way that I rarely see on the internet, and I've very much come to like you as a person. That's why I can't help but find some of your comments about oppression in this video very jarring. It's true that genocide is the end point of oppression, but if you choose not to recognise hurts until they are screaming in your face then I worry that you will have missed your opportunity to do anything meaningful about them. I have studied the second world war and I have been to Krakow, Berlin and Auschwitz myself to learn about the Holocaust; I come from a European country which has experienced much of what would generally be considered oppression, but which I don't believe would meet the standard you describe here. One thing that has been stressed to me again and again is that the violence you see in this movie began with words, and it escalated because those words were not taken seriously. Your opinions are of course your business and not mine, but I would encourage you to think a little more about this issue, if that's something you're interested in doing.

2023-07-17 17:36:20 +0000 UTCI visited Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Schindler factory in Kraków Poland where this was filmed last summer and consider the subject matter a lesson from history that we should all be taught about in school.

2023-07-15 22:11:31 +0000 UTCi'm glad you watched this alan. schindler's list hits hard for me. its the second time watching it. im not a jew. but my mum fell in love with a older ukraine jew. "my step father". who escaped ukraine to the uk. just before his whole family was wiped out by the nazi's. he was the nicest person you could ever meet and would give you his only meal if he had too. he died happy and we was his only family at that time. so men like schindler are heros to the jews and me. so i agree this younger generation who say they are oppressed have no idea of reality they are living in today. stay safe alan and thanks. excuse any spelling mistakes.
