Assassination Rogue 4-Piece Tier Set Bug (Fatebound)
Added 2026-01-14 11:38:10 +0000 UTCAfter I posted my recent assassination rogue guide I was sent several posts about a similar exploit that came from the rogue discord. Normally I try not to publish content I or patreons did not innovate. In this case I'm making an exception, partly because I didn't want to waste the detailed information patreon Trishula sent me, and because the content is public but also not that widely known.
Trishula credits the original innovation to "nutwzrd". This was tested both by myself and Trishula shortly before I posted this.
Rogue 4-Piece Tier Set Bug - Guaranteed Trigger Guide
Overview
A bug in the Rogue 4-piece tier set allows excessive reduction of your 2-minute cooldown. While this will likely be patched soon, there's a replicable method to guarantee the bug by adjusting your ability sequence based on initial coin flip state and using movement for extra global cooldown leeway.
Execution difficulty: Medium - more of a memory/knowledge check than mechanical skill.
Core Mechanics
Coin Flip System:
Standard Rupture + Envenom opener leaves you at either 3x or 1x coin state
2x, 4x, 5x coin states occur mid-pull on later cooldown timings
Each Envenom (5+ combo points) flips 1 coin
Vanish Envenom flips 2 coins (each can crit for +1 combo)
Kingsbane grants 1 combo (2 if crit), +2 coins (can crit for 1-4 total combo)
The Bug Trigger: After reaching 7 on one "coin type," you have:
3 globals (with movement) to get the second coin type to 7
2 globals (without movement)
Setup Recommendations
Macros: Combine Crimson Vial with Deathmark AND with Kingsbane separately (simplifies sequences)
Movement Technique: After hitting 7 and generating your first Lucky Coin, move the distance shown in the referenced image to buy 1 extra global of leeway.
Sequences by Starting Coin State
1-Coin Start
Shiv → CB+DM → KB (5-4) → Vanish Envenom (7-6) → RUN + Mutilate [+ Mutilate if no crit] → Envenom (8-7, BUG TRIGGERED)
2-Coin Start (Vanish moved later)
Shiv → CB+DM → KB (6-4) → Envenom (7-5) → RUN + Mutilate [+ Mutilate if no crit] → Vanish Envenom (9-7, BUG TRIGGERED)
3-Coin Start (Vanish before KB)
Shiv → CB+DM (5-2) → Vanish Envenom (7-4) → RUN + KB (9-6) → [Mutilate if needed] → Envenom (10-7, BUG TRIGGERED)
4-Coin Start (Envenom before Vanish KB)
Shiv → CB+DM (6-2) → Envenom (7-3) → RUN + KB (9-5) → [Mutilate if needed] → Vanish Envenom (11-7, BUG TRIGGERED)
5-Coin Start (RNG dependent)
Pre-build combo points for Envenom → Shiv → CB+DM (7-2) → RUN + Vanish Envenom (9-4) → KB → Envenom (12-7, BUG TRIGGERED)
Requires lucky coin crits (Seal Fate/Deal Fate)
Important Notes
All Envenoms must be 5+ combo points to flip a coin
Sequence order matters - adjusting Vanish or Kingsbane position may break the sequence
You control your coinflip "pace" by repositioning Vanish and KB
Always run after reaching 7, even if uncertain about your sequence - improves success rate
Run away from your Lucky Coin
Maintain permanent melee uptime possible - movement distance is sufficient even on smaller bosses
Racial Considerations
Night Elf = Best-in-Slot
Shadowmeld works as a Vanish substitute
Rotation: Vanish at 0:00 → Meld at 1:00 → Vanish at 2:00, etc.
Can permanently trigger the bug
Other Races
At 1:00 cooldown timing (no Vanish/Meld available): Start at 1 coin, standard sequence to 7-6 (with 6 edge cases)
Pray for next coinflip to land at 7 on secondary coin face
If you hit "8" result instead, bug fails
Possible Simulation Impact: Crit may be slightly undervalued in sims since you can theoretically get only 4 combo points from 2x Mutilate with bad RNG.
Note: This will likely be patched in the next update.
