Multiple consecutive uses of presence of mind. (One-Shot Potential)
The mage talent presence of mind is designed to not to start its cooldown countdown until it is actually used. This is to prevent players casting presence of mind, before a pull or the start of a battle, waiting for the buff cooldown to expire, then entering combat casting a powerful ability such as pyroblast instantly, then casting presence of mind again and getting another instant use ability.
There is a simple way round this (which is fixed on retail). Cast presence of mind in a pre-pull raid situation or something like a battleground before it starts. Immediately cast alter time. The presence of mind buff will be retained but will also start to come off cooldown-you do not need to remove it or cast any ability. After the cooldown has expired you can then cast instant cast nuke such as pyroblast, cast presence of mind, then use another instant cast nuke. This has one-shot potential.
Timewarp without cooldown using preparation buff
Another similar trick involves casting timewarp in a situation where the preparation buff is active. Casting timewarp (or other lust ability) before the preparation buff expires causes the debuff that prevents multiple casts in a short period to vanish-this halves the effective time before you can recast timewarp.
A related trick I have often used when soloing difficult bosses-cast timewarp and immediately log-out. After 10 minutes 20 seconds of the timewarp buff will still be effective but can be immediately re-cast (the cooldown runs down while you are offline. This works with any type of buff longer than the 20 second logout timer, not just timewarp.
