Dill is not the only person with financial stake in FA and this sudden shift in strategy makes me think he is not the one making decisions at this point in time. I think it is a very real possibility that he is removed from the day-to-day operations and is letting someone else run the company while he collects checks and blindly gives the thumbs up to any proposal that comes across his desk

On that note - be cool if u did a temperature check of professional skateboarding in 2023 - how many pros are there in total? how much are they pulling in from core / fashion brand deals ? What's the average annual income for a solid pro ? what lengths of contract are they on? Do the contracts stipulate how many video parts / insta posts are required ? Is health insurance included in their contracts? Would be particularly interesting for anyone considering a career as a pro. (Not me)

I love Jake (new)Curren and Louie but I think I would rather live in a theoretical world where Lou went to skate mental. It would never happen. SM obviously sucks but I think if that happened it would put the company in a position to actually grow into something decent. I don’t remember the videos being bad but I guess I also don’t remember them. Antonio is great and if those three were there too I think that’s enough to make the rest of the dead weight tolerable. Dill putting people on in the peak of their career is just kinda annoying. I dunno I guess I’d just rather give SM a chance over FA at this point even though I do enjoy FA videos more and of course want those guys to be making decent money which I doubt SM can provide. I’m rambling but yeah it’s good for Jake and Curren I just wanna root for the undeserving underdog for no reason

Baker’s image has become more palatable/clean overtime and it’s given them longevity. Maybe Dill is realising the edgy/hipster look is hard to maintain for a company of FA’s size and in order to keep growing and maintain relevance it has to widen its image hence introducing Curren. Also the output of the guys who film with Ryan Ree is immense and worth tapping into for Dill.

I recall seeing the whole FA team take a couple trips together after tyshawn & na-kel left. Who knows how productive these trips actually were, but tbh it'd be pretty sick if a full-length FA video dropped at the end of the year. IF that happens, I could see curren and jake sharing a part, a full louie part (obviously), full berle part (sw tre el toro), and one other og team member having a full part, with everyone else having a couple clips sprinkled in

I am curious about your thoughts in general on how brands age past the initial decade gracefully. You can look at Crail and how hard they flopped but then look at baker who is surprisingly aging gracefully. I think unproductive skaters, shit product and not bringing up new talent are the biggest mistakes that are made-sorry for the rant

Curren and Jake joining FA would, to me, signal FA ditching the “lazy NYC fashion cool guy” vibe and becoming a safe haven team for seasoned, safe, dudes that are really good but still have cool points. Almost like they’re becoming less Dill more Ave. Louie, Jake, and Curren would become the staples of the team (maybe push Gino to have more footage?), and FA will become a more clean cut version of Hockey. Throw Mason on there for good measure. He needs something more relevant than Real and joining friends on FA makes sense.

There is a fun Vans thread that links Elijah to Dane Reynolds who runs Former with Gillete. Jake is under that umbrella too. Whole messy web that probably is meaningless in reality.

fair point, i agree with you on that (but besides being about brand style aren't they also about selling skateboards and clothing which would make it somewhat a competitive endeavor). but imo curren and jake look like they stylistically jive with louie, FA's biggest star, more than KB or berle or beatrice anyway

Curren has been known to wear different skate brands in clips such as the Sci Fi hoodie when he does the front 360 nose manny for Instagram. I think that everyone that skate for Skate Mental obviously doesn’t take it too seriously and Curren riding an FA board dosent seem like enough evidence for him to be getting on. It could be plausible that Skate Mental is going under too and Louie could be flowing them boards. The egg shaped FA board is some good evidence because that shape isn’t in production or on the website but still I’m gonna need some more evidence to believe that they are getting on just because it’s Skate Mental and they are a bunch of internet trolls to some degree.

Only difference now is that (from what we know) Austyn isn’t apart of this iteration of the formation of this new team/brand. Jake Anderson was apart of that last go around with dill toying with doing a 3rd company so that’s why I say this.

I think Louie is gonna leave FA for king skateboards since hes friends with nak and tyshawn but on the terms that he will bring curren and jake anderson with him on the team. After a couple years, tyshawn will get bored with king skateboards so he will leave to start another board company and bring nak and louie with him. This will leave zach saraceno, curren caples and jake anderson as the faces of king skateboards and dill will leave FA to become brand manager of king. The future is bright 😎.

At this point I feel like if more people are going to FA then a couple people should be dropped. That's a lot of pro boards competing for wall space. FA probably needs them more than they need FA. I also kinda doubt this, but I wonder if a second thought has been had about that third brand that never happened. (Funeral Home, I think?)

No question other than to comment that this is the only plausible move that could inject life into fa. Louie is their star so his influence should be first priority, none of the team skate enough to recruit, and dill is at home smoking and painting so he’s not looking for new talent. Idk if it’s sustainable tho since both those new riders would be on the older side in skate terms
