Cregan's Sigil
Added 2023-05-02 19:15:01 +0000 UTCWhich emblem should Cregan choose now that he has been bestowed knighthood? This symbol will adorn his tunic and shield during grand tourneys and become a defining aspect of his persona within the realm of Westeros.
A competition was carried out on the Discord server (and Questionable Questing) for ideas, and these are the nine that were submitted.

I think the last one. I like the look of the second one, but it doesn't have a link to the Daynes.

2023-05-04 19:57:22 +0000 UTCThis isn't a new house sigil though. Cregan is still a Sand. This is his knightly sigil and using the house where you warded/grew up isn't uncommon and as the only 'son' of OBeryn, even if not by blood, yeah I can see Doran giving permission for Martell colours to be used. Also, and this isn't written yet, Arianne is one of those who help design it, in-story. Since she wants Cregan to stay close, and might even want him to stay her paramour, I can see her using her house colours to highlight his link to her. Also, consider Harrold Hardyng's personal sigil (https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:Harrold_Hardyng.svg). That uses the Houses Arryn, Hardyng and Waynwood. Yes, his mother was a Waynwood, but he still was still a Ward of the house instead of another. And Arryn comes from his grandmother.

2023-05-03 17:12:01 +0000 UTCI understand your point but I think guards who serve House Martell wearing their livery is different to a new house sigil. That being said, due to his very close relations with the Martell’s I could see Doran giving him special dispensation to have to Martell sun in his coat of arms.

And Cregan, apart from being the stepson of Oberyn, was raised in Sunspear and trained by Oberyn to knighthood. So long as the elements of the Martell sigil aren't used too predominantly, it would generally be fine.

2023-05-03 13:13:06 +0000 UTCI like all of them, just not 100% sure if the Martell imagery would be allowed in medieval society. He’s by blood a Dayne and Stark and while Oberyn is his step father that doesn’t give him the right to use Nymeros Martell imagery. Bastards have to usually invert their family sigils, adopting another families sigil no matter the connection seems unrealistic. Maybe, something centred around Oberyn and not the Nymeros Martell sun would be a nice homage. Something like a viper or snake that pays respect to Oberyn and his daughters but doesn’t directly rip the Martell sigil which would be a big no-no.
