Callisto 0.50 - Week 3 Update

Work has continued on the strip club animation with a sample video in a couple of formats towards the bottom. Went into the latest animation, expecting it to be significantly easier than the first one, however was mistaken. To make it look realistic, it was necessary to heavily articulate the torso, with a resultant impact on the positioning chest and the impact on posing the hands. To provide some content, try placing your hand on a wall and then move your hips / torso and then consider how many changes happen to your shoulder, upper arm, lower arm and wrist. In order to get the hand in the correct position, I have to pose every single one of these joints during the animation.

The above is the movement of the shoulder in the forwards / backwards direction. The little squares are where I have manually controlled the movement and the remaining frames are interpolated. When you consider that the shoulder, upper arm, lower arm and wrist all have 3 degrees of freedom, that's 12 parameters to tweak to get the hand in the right spot from a given chest location. Given that I had to do both hands, you can see the degree of work required to get an animation complete. Whilst I am getting better at the process, I can really see the value in motion capture and more advanced animation software. On the bright side, the rendering speed for the completed animation is very fast and the animation can be applied in full to another character, so there are no issues with animating a large range of performers.

Going to take a break from the animation for a while (it's rather tedious) and flesh out the club environment. Just a matter of creating a number of customers, placing them at various locations in the club, then rendering at all of the camera angles. Actually quite a bit of processor time to render out, due to the complexity of lighting. These will likely take roughly 1hr per frame, in comparison to an animation frame which is 1 minute.

Thanks for all of the feedback on the performer outfits. Just the Paige outfit remaining to be decided, with 1 day left on the voting.

Till next week,

Xav
