My body began to shift, my humanoid form shedding like a shell as my true form emerged. I grew taller, broader, my skin darkening to a deep purplish hue. Six massive tentacles unfurled from my back, writhing like living shadows, while two curved horns sprouted from my head, crackling with energy. My wings—six of them—spread wide, their leathery expanse casting a dark shadow over the room. Two tails lashed behind me, their movements sharp and deliberate.
My presence filled the room, oppressive and undeniable. My voice, now deeper and resonant, echoed through the chamber. "This is a grand court!" I snarled, my gaze sweeping over the gathered demons. "Your behavior here is not only disgraceful but an insult to the royal family. Or do you no longer consider the authority of the royals worthy of respect?"
Berith took a hesitant step back, his flames dimming further, while Belial’s smirk finally faltered. Even Gremory, who usually thrived on drama, looked momentarily stunned.
"Enough of this nonsense," I continued, my voice unwavering. "The negotiation will proceed as I outlined before. Berith and Gremory will renegotiate their terms if they wish to continue their partnership. And Belial…" I turned my gaze to him, the weight of my fury pinning him in place. "If you want to expand your influence, you will do it the PROPER WAY—through negotiation and alliances. Not interference."
Belial opened his mouth, likely to retort, but I cut him off with a sharp snap of one of my tails against the floor. "Do you understand me?" I growled, my aura flaring.
He nodded quickly, his usual bravado nowhere to be found. "Understood," he muttered, his voice quieter than I’d ever heard it.
I turned to Berith and Gremory, my gaze unyielding. "And you two? Do you understand?"
Berith hesitated for a moment, then nodded, his fiery aura flickering weakly. "Yes, Crown Prince," he said through gritted teeth.
Gremory crossed her arms, her expression defiant but ultimately compliant. "Fine," she said, her tone begrudging.
"Good," I said, my voice carrying the finality. "If any of you step out of line again, you’ll answer directly to me. And trust me, you don’t want that."
The room remained silent, the tension thick but contained. I let my true form linger for a moment longer, ensuring the message was well and truly delivered, before reverting back to my usual self.
Luci, of course, couldn’t resist breaking the silence. "Well, that was dramatic," he said, swirling his wine lazily.
I shot him a glare, but the corner of my mouth twitched despite myself.
Beel, now happily snacking again, gave me a thumbs-up. "Nice work, El," he said through a mouthful of food.
Asmo’s voice chimed in from his laptop, his tone equal parts amused and impressed. "You really know how to steal the spotlight."
I rolled my eyes, slumping back into my chair. "I don’t know how you all live with this level of chaos."
"Practice," Luci said with a smirk.
My father, finally satisfied, nodded from his throne. "Well done, Azrael. You handled that… adequately."
‘Adequately?’ After all that, I had half a mind to throw something at my father. But of course, His Majesty the King of Hell was untouchable in every sense of the word, so I swallowed my irritation and gave him a curt nod. He raised his hand, dismissing the court with an air of finality.
"That concludes today’s session," he said, his voice echoing through the chamber. "You are all dismissed."
Mammon didn’t waste a second. Without so much as a backward glance, he snapped his fingers and vanished, probably back to his mountain of financial spreadsheets. Belphegor, still half-asleep, groaned as he lazily stretched, his barrier dissolving before he disappeared in a swirl of shadow.
"Classic Mammon and Belp," I muttered, leaning back in my chair as the other demons began filing out of the courtroom. Some were still whispering about the earlier spectacle, their eyes darting toward me like they were afraid I’d snap again. Good. Let them.
Luci stood, brushing imaginary dust off his pristine jacket. "Well, that was a delightful waste of time," he said, his tone as bored as ever.
Beel was still munching on what looked like the charred leg of some hellbeast, entirely unbothered by the chaos that had unfolded. Levi, meanwhile, was glued to his phone, his face illuminated by the screen as he scrolled with the intensity of someone avoiding social interaction.
Just as I was about to stand and make my own exit, Asmo’s voice chimed in from his laptop, cutting through the fading murmurs. "Hey, you guys!" he called out, his tone bright and borderline demanding.
We all turned to look at the screen, where Asmo was lounging like a king on his chaise, surrounded by a suspiciously large number of scantily clad demons. His champagne glass sparkled in the light, and his grin was as dazzling as ever.
"You’re all coming to my party, right?" he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I’m waiting for you. Don’t even think about ditching me."
I raised an eyebrow, crossing my arms. "You’ve got a hell of a way of inviting people, Asmo. Isn’t it enough you FaceTimed into a grand court from your party?"
"Of course not!" Asmo said, pouting dramatically. "What’s the point of having a party if my favorite people aren’t there? Besides, you could all use a little fun after that snoozefest."
"Snoozefest?" Luci repeated, his lips curling into a smirk. "I’m not sure what part of that circus you found boring, but sure, let’s call it that."
Asmo waved a dismissive hand. "Details, Luci. Details. So? Are you coming or not?"
Beel let out a contented sigh, licking his fingers clean. "As long as there’s food," he said, already sounding half-convinced.
"There’s plenty of food!" Asmo said, his grin widening. "You’ll love it, Beel. And Levi, I’ve got some rare games set up just for you. Exclusive stuff from the mortal realm. You’ll die if you don’t see it."
Levi glanced up from his phone, his interest clearly piqued. "Games?" he muttered, blinking like he was trying not to look too excited.
