Before I could answer, Shadow slinked into the kitchen. His glowing eyes locked onto me with his usual unimpressed stare as he leapt onto the counter with effortless grace.
“Well,” Shadow drawled, his voice smooth and lazy, “can you imagine how messy he must’ve been after doing that all night? It’s a miracle he didn’t just combust on the spot.”
I rolled my eyes, leaning back in my chair with a smirk. “Yeah, thanks for the vote of confidence, Shadow. Glad to know you’re rooting for me.”
Celia snickered, pulling open the fridge to start grabbing ingredients. “He’s not wrong though. You must’ve been a disaster if you needed to wash up in your Nephilim form.”
“Yup,” I said without missing a beat, my grin widening. “I did it in my form, so yeah… everything needed a deep clean.”
Celia raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms as she leaned against the counter. “And by everything, you mean…”
“My wings,” I replied quickly, cutting her off before she could get any funny ideas. “They were a mess. Feathers, dirt, all kinds of stuff. You know, standard Nephilim problems.”
“Sure,” Celia said, her tone dripping with skepticism as she set a frying pan on the stove. “Sounds totally normal. Nephilim problems and all that.”
Foxy tilted her head, her eyes narrowing slightly. “You know,” she began, her voice softer than usual, “you could’ve called me if you needed help.” She hesitated, her ears twitching nervously before she added, almost shyly, “I can help you clean your wings.”
A small smile tugged at the corners of my lips. “Thanks, Foxy,” I said, reaching out to pat her head lightly. Her ears flicked back, and her blush deepened, but she didn’t pull away. “I’ll keep that in mind next time.”
Celia, who was busy pulling out a whisk and mixing bowl, paused for a moment, her own cheeks turning a faint shade of pink as she glanced at me. She looked like she wanted to say something but hesitated, her hands fiddling with the utensils.
“What’s up, Celia?” I asked, noticing the way her gaze kept flicking toward me and then back to the counter.
“I can help you too, you know,” she said finally, her voice quieter than usual. “It’s not like you have to do everything yourself.”
I tilted my head, studying her expression. “Yeah, but you guys were all still asleep. I didn’t want to wake you.”
“That’s not the point,” Celia shot back, her voice a little sharper now as she focused on the mixing bowl in front of her. “You just decided to do everything on your own without even thinking about asking for help.”
I chuckled as I crossed my arms. “Well, in my defense, I was still processing all of this.” I gave Celia and Foxy a smug grin, glancing between the two of them. “Honestly? Yeah. Besides, if I had woken you guys up with my new form, you’d probably be way more shocked than you are now.”
Celia pouted, her cheeks puffing out slightly as she turned back to the stove. “That’s such a lame excuse,” she muttered, flipping something in the frying pan.
I grinned and leaned forward, resting my chin in my hand. “Oh, come on. You know you would’ve screamed. Again.”
Her pout deepened, and I could see the faintest blush creeping up her neck. “I only screamed because it was unexpected. And glowing wings aren’t exactly normal first thing in the morning.”
“Uh-huh,” I teased, standing and walking over to her. Before she could protest, I leaned down and kissed her forehead. “Alright, alright. Next time, I’ll call for you, okay? Just give me breakfast first. Your brother is starving here. I’m this close to dying of hunger.”
Celia huffed, clearly trying to hold back a smile as she swatted at me with a spatula. “Fine, fine. Sit down and stop whining.”
Grinning like the big brother I was, I plopped down at the dining table like a “good boy,” folding my hands in front of me for effect. “See? I’m sitting. Perfectly behaved.”
Celia raised an eyebrow from her spot by the counter, clearly unimpressed. “Perfectly behaved? That’s not exactly what I’d call ‘behaved.’”
I smirked, leaning back in my chair. “Details. Cut me some slack.”
“Whatever,” Celia muttered, turning her attention back to the food.
My stomach growled loudly, and my eyes locked onto the frying pan Celia was working with. The smell was heavenly—rich, savory, with just a hint of spice. My mouth practically watered as I realized what they were making.
“Fried rice?” I asked, my voice hopeful.
Celia glanced at me over her shoulder, a small smirk playing on her lips. “A huge portion, just for you. You said you were starving, right?”
“I knew you loved me,” I said dramatically, clasping my hands together.
“I am,” she said, though I could tell she was trying not to laugh.
A few minutes later, Celia set a plate down in front of me, the portion so massive it could’ve fed three people. I grinned like a kid on Christmas morning, grabbing my fork and spoon like weapons ready for battle.
“This… is exactly what I needed,” I said, practically drooling as I dug in.
The first bite was bliss. The rice was perfectly cooked, each grain coated in just the right amount of seasoning. The bits of egg, vegetables, and meat were mixed in perfectly, adding texture and flavor with every bite. “Celia,” I said between mouthfuls, “this is amazing. I could kiss you again, but I’m too busy eating.”
“Good,” she said with a smirk, sitting across from me with her own plate. “Keep eating. Maybe it’ll keep you quiet for five minutes.”
I grinned, shoveling another spoonful into my mouth. “I’m pacing myself,” I said around the food. “Gotta savor it.”
Shadow leapt up onto the table, his eyes fixed on my plate. “You’re acting like you didn’t eat all night.”
I raised an eyebrow, meeting his gaze. “I didn’t. That’s why this fried rice feels like it’s saving my life right now.”
Shadow flicked his tail lazily, hopping closer to sniff at my plate. “You’ve got a strange way of surviving, eating like you just came back from war.”
I rolled my eyes, shooing him away gently. “this is survival. You don’t question the instincts of a hungry man. Now, let me eat in peace before I start glowing again.”
But just as I was about to go for another spoonful, a familiar voice echoed in my head, stopping me mid-motion.
‘Damian, can we talk?’ Zalira said.

I am sorry but I felt like chapters 1069 to 1073 could have been one bigger chapter :), maybe two. Nevertheless, I liked them so thanks for the chapters! :)
