The Incubus System Chapter 1054. Ignorance

The Incubus System Chapter 1054. Ignorance

I adjusted my cuffs and felt a strange nervous energy building inside me. This wasn’t just about seduction or breaking the seal—it felt bigger than that. Puriel had been through so much, and I wanted her to feel safe, to feel like she belonged. But I also needed to make sure I didn’t mess this up. ‘Damn… I never thought that breaking my angelic seal could make me this nervous,’ I thought.

I glanced over at her. She was still lying there, her expression soft and peaceful, entirely unaware of the world around her. For a moment, I felt a small dilemma tugging at me. Should I wake her up or just let her rest? She looked so serene, almost innocent in her sleep. Her face relaxed, the faintest trace of a smile on her lips, like she was dreaming of something pleasant. It was strange, really—despite the fact that she was an ancient angel, she looked more like an ordinary, even helpless, human girl when she slept.

Well, maybe not entirely helpless. The faint but steady pulse of her angelic power radiated from her, an invisible aura that made her presence feel both calming and intimidating. It was like a silent reminder of what she was. Still, as I watched her, it was hard to imagine that this woman had once been a mighty celestial being, someone who, in another time and place, probably wouldn’t have spared a demon like me a second glance.

I leaned closer and extended my hand, brushing a strand of her golden hair away from her face. She stirred slightly, shifting her head as if adjusting to the touch, but she didn’t wake up. Her breathing remained soft and steady, and for a moment, I just watched her. There was something surreal about seeing her like this, so relaxed, as though centuries of duty and isolation had finally faded, leaving only the woman beneath.

Sighing, I let my gaze drift upward, to the vast expanse of stars stretching across the night sky. They were bright tonight. My mind started to wander, wondering what the celestial realm looked like. Would it resemble this endless sky? Did angels spend their days in such serenity, or were they, too, weighed down by duties and expectations they could never escape?

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of my lips. ‘Nah… I don’t think so,’ I thought, pushing the fanciful notion aside. If anything, the angels were notorious for their indifference. They hadn’t intervened when Erebus himself clashed with Lord Damon. They hadn’t even bothered to act when Xenos, the former demon king, sacrificed his soul to shatter the barrier between our worlds. And that wasn’t exactly a minor event. It had been a shift, something that had literally shaken the realms, yet the celestial beings had remained aloof.

‘Talk about ignorance,’ I thought, scoffing a little to myself. For beings who claimed to uphold justice, they sure seemed good at turning a blind eye when it suited them.

Puriel’s PoV

Puriel felt herself slowly stirring awake, a shiver running through her as the coolness of the air settled over her skin. It was strange—the last thing she remembered was the warmth of the couch back at Ethan’s place, the soft lull of the TV and the hum of voices from some drama she had been watching. But now, the air was different, colder, crisper, and tinged with something earthy and fresh. As her eyes fluttered open, she realized the light surrounding her was dim and soft, not the artificial glow of a lamp, but the fading remnants of daylight.

‘This… isn’t the couch,’ she thought as she felt the plush blankets beneath her, the thick layers cocooning her against the chill. A sudden awareness jolted through her, and her eyes snapped open fully. She turned her head, taking in the rich indigo of the evening sky and the faint flicker of candlelight casting soft shadows across the scene.

Sitting just a few inches away was Ethan, his profile silhouetted against the darkening sky as he sat on the edge of the bed, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. His gaze was cast upward, fixed on some distant point, and for a moment, he looked… different. Not the slightly grumpy, dry-humored demon she had come to know, but something more reflective and human. She couldn’t help but stare, surprised at how peaceful he looked here, surrounded by the open sky and quiet.

As if sensing her gaze, he turned to her, his expression softening. “You’re awake,” he said, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

“Ethan?” she mumbled, her voice still thick with sleep. She rubbed her eyes, trying to shake off the drowsiness. Her surroundings came into sharper focus. Her confusion only deepened. “This… this isn’t a dream?” she asked, the disbelief clear in her tone.

The whole setting felt too surreal—Ethan, sitting beside her on a bed that had somehow appeared in the middle of nowhere, with the sky above them and stars just beginning to peek through the twilight. She’d never thought of Ethan as the romantic type, far from it. He was a demon lord, after all, and romance didn’t exactly seem to be high on his list of priorities. He’d always struck her as a little rough around the edges, occasionally grumpy, and most definitely not the kind to set up something like… this.

Ethan chuckled softly, the sound grounding her in reality. “Nope, not a dream. Just figured you might like a change of scenery.”

She blinked, trying to process his words. “You… set all of this up?” She glanced around, taking in the thoughtful details—the bed, the soft blankets, the flickering candles surrounding them in a gentle glow. Her gaze landed on a small table nearby, where two steaming mugs of what looked like honey milk tea sat beside a bouquet of delicate pink roses and lilies. The whole setup felt like something out of the dramas she’d been watching, and for a moment, her heart gave a little flutter.
