Celia nodded. “I think she’s using them to figure out how the world works. At least when it comes to love.”
“Sounds like someone else we know,” I teased her.
She rolled her eyes playfully. “Hey, at least I don’t want to have sex in a hot air balloon. I still can’t believe she asked that. What is she, a romantic in disguise?”
I shrugged. “Apparently.” My eyes wandered back to Puriel, her chest rising and falling slowly with each breath. “She’s been through a lot. I think she’s just trying to feel… normal. Like she belongs somewhere.”
Celia’s expression softened. “Yeah, I get that. Poor thing. She’s probably never had a chance to relax like this before. No wonder she’s attached to the romance stuff.”
I nodded, still watching Puriel. I could understand it, in a way.
“So, what’s the plan for tonight?” Celia asked quietly, nudging me with her elbow.
I grinned, leaning closer to her. “Stargazing. I’ve got everything set up at a private spot on a mountain. Camila let me use her place. I’m taking Puriel there.”
Celia raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. “You’ve really thought this through, huh?”
I shrugged, trying to downplay it, but the grin on my face gave me away. "I mean, I’m trying. It’s not every day I plan a date for an angel. I’ve gotta make sure everything’s perfect."
She smirked, crossing her arms. "You’re going all out with this, huh? What’s next? A proposal under the stars?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Not quite, but hey, it’s gotta be special, right? Which reminds me…" I paused, eyeing the kitchen. "Any chance you could make two mugs of that honey milk tea for us before we head out?"
Celia raised an eyebrow, her smirk widening. "Two mugs of honey milk tea, huh? Really setting the mood, aren’t you?"
"Of course!" I replied, my voice full of mock indignation. "I’ve got to make sure every detail’s right. Besides, she loved it earlier."
She laughed, already heading toward the fridge. "Alright, alright. Two mugs of honey milk tea, coming right up. But don’t think this means you can steal my secret recipe for your dates from now on."
"Oh, please, Celia, don’t flatter yourself," I shot back with a grin. "I’d never steal your tea-making skills… even though they are pretty legendary."
Celia scoffed and got to work
I started thinking about the rest of the plan, and then it hit me, Puriel was still wearing my old t-shirt and sweatpants. They were fine for lounging around the house, but for a romantic evening under the stars? No way. She needed something better—something that made her feel special, especially considering how new all of this was for her.
"She can’t go stargazing in my lame clothes," I muttered, almost to myself. "I need to get her something decent."
Celia overheard me and turned around from the kitchen counter, tilting her head in agreement. "You’re right. She deserves to feel good about herself too. Besides, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know what’s considered ‘nice’ for a night like this."
I nodded, already picturing a dress in my mind. "Yeah, something simple but elegant."
Celia stepped closer, eyeing me as if she could read my mind. "You want my advice?" she asked, her tone casual but knowing.
"Always," I replied, raising an eyebrow.
She thought for a moment, then nodded. "Go for something simple, nothing too extravagant. Maybe a soft color—something calming. I’d say she’s about a size medium, give or take."
"Got it," I said, mentally noting everything down. "You sure about the size?"
Celia gave me a look. "Trust me, I’ve got an eye for these things."
"Alright then," I replied with a grin, knowing better than to doubt her judgment. "I’ll be back in a flash."
Celia chuckled, shaking her head as she went back to making the tea. "Just don’t teleport into the store and freak out the staff, okay?"
"Hey, I’m all about blending in," I said with a mock-serious tone as I headed toward my portal.
In less than a heartbeat, I was at the store. The moment I stepped inside, I headed straight for the clothing section, already knowing what I wanted. There was no time to waste on browsing; I had a mission, and I needed to stick to it.
"Can I help you find something, sir?" one of the store attendants asked, her eyes lighting up when she saw me heading directly to the dresses.
"Yeah, I’m looking for a simple dress," I explained quickly. "Soft color, nothing too fancy. Size medium."
She blinked, clearly a little surprised by my no-nonsense approach, but she nodded and led me toward the racks. "We’ve got a few options here. Would you like to see them?"
I shook my head. "Nope. Just give me that one," I said, pointing to a soft pastel-colored dress Celia would have approved of. "In a medium size."
The attendant hesitated. "Would you like to see other options, sir?"
"No," I said, my voice firm but polite. "I’m in a bit of a rush. That one’s perfect."
She nodded, quickly retrieving the dress from the rack. She wrapped it up and looked thoughtful for a moment before holding up a matching hairpin. "This would go well with the dress. Should I add it to your purchase?"
I hesitated for a split second before nodding. "Sure, throw it in. Can’t hurt to be thorough."
Once the dress and hairpin were packed, I paid and dashed out of the store. I had only been gone for about fifteen minutes, including the quick stop I made to pick up the flower bouquet I’d ordered earlier. Efficiency was my middle name, after all.
When I got back home, Celia looked up from the kitchen, her eyes wide with disbelief. "You’re already back? That’s insane! How did you—"
"You know me," I said with a smug grin. "Fast shopping is my thing."
She stared at me for a second before laughing and shaking her head. "Fifteen minutes? I barely had time to finish making the tea!"
