The Incubus System Chapter 1051. Could I Ever Love Him?

The Incubus System Chapter 1051. Could I Ever Love Him?

Puriel’s PoV

Her gaze flicked back to the movie, where the couple on screen embraced passionately as the sun set behind them, their love now free from the chains of war. Puriel’s heart swelled at the sight, but a small voice in the back of her mind whispered a caution. ‘You’re not her.’ She wasn’t sure if she could love like that. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to love like that.

But the longing was there, undeniable, tugging at her soul. Centuries of isolation had left her empty, craving something—anything—that would make her feel alive again. And then there was Ethan. He was nothing like what she had expected. He was brash, shameless, and yet, he had freed her. He had shown her kindness in his own strange way. He wasn’t like the demons she had known, the ones filled with cruelty and malice. He was different. And that difference made her curious.

‘Could I ever love him?’ The thought startled her, and she blinked, trying to push it away. It felt too soon, too strange. But the seed had been planted, and she couldn’t deny that it was there.

Puriel let out a soft sigh. She wanted to understand what her sister had felt, but the answers eluded her. Maybe, just maybe, she was on the verge of finding out for herself.

And maybe, just maybe, that terrified her more than she was willing to admit.

Ethan’s PoV

I stepped out of the portal and into my room, grinning like a kid who just pulled off the perfect prank. The clock on the wall read 5:45 PM, and everything was ready for tonight. My preparations had gone smoother than I expected—well, almost. I ran into a bit of an issue earlier when I visited the original stargazing spot I found online. Turns out, that place was packed with people. The article I read was posted five years ago, so apparently, word had spread far and wide. What was supposed to be a quiet, romantic spot had turned into a tourist hotspot, complete with two big resorts. Not exactly the kind of secluded intimacy I had in mind.

Thankfully, I had backup. My partners always came through in a pinch, so I reached out, asking if anyone knew of a better spot for stargazing. I didn’t want to cause any unnecessary misunderstandings—especially with Ruby, who sounded a bit too excited when I asked for help. To avoid any weirdness, I made sure to explain that this was for Puriel. The last thing I needed was one of them showing up unexpectedly and turning a quiet night into something… complicated.

It was Camila who gave me the perfect idea. She suggested a private spot she used to visit often when she needed to calm down after fighting with her ex-husband. She mentioned it with a kind of distant fondness, and when I went to check it out, I understood why. It was breathtaking. High up on a mountain, surrounded by nothing but trees, and an unobstructed view of the night sky that stretched forever. I didn’t even hesitate to decide on using it. But, of course, I didn’t pick exactly the same spot. The last thing I wanted was to destroy Camila’s peaceful place in case, well, things got intense, especially when my seal broke.

Camila, being the generous woman she is, let me use it for free, saying she hardly went there anymore. She mentioned there was a cabin nearby, but when I saw it, calling it a cabin felt like an understatement. The place was bigger than my house. I mean, it had rooms—plural—an outdoor deck, and even a hot tub. I couldn’t help but think how much of a better place it was for Puriel to unwind. But for tonight, I set up our date in a clearing up the mountain, not far from the cabin but far enough that we’d have complete privacy.

I’d even bought a bed, a nice one, and set it up under the stars. After all, the plan wasn’t just stargazing. We had a seal to break, and I had to be practical. That bed was going to come in handy.

The only hiccup? Bugs. Lots of them. As soon as I set up the lighting for ambiance, they came swarming like it was a full-on insect festival. Nothing kills a romantic vibe faster than swatting at mosquitoes, so I knew I’d need a barrier. Romantic movies never show me the part where the main characters were covered in bug bites by the end of their romantic evening.

With everything ready, I just hoped it wouldn’t rain. The weather looked good, though. To make the night even cozier, I thought about bringing two big mugs of honey milk tea. Celia’s honey milk tea had worked wonders on Puriel earlier, so it’d be the perfect thing to warm her up while we watched the stars.

Feeling satisfied, I headed downstairs casually, already picturing how the night would go. “Celia!” I called out in a cheerful tone, but as soon as I entered the living room, she turned to me and pressed a finger to her lips.

“Shhh!” she hissed, pointing to the sofa.

I followed her gaze and saw Puriel sprawled out on the couch, fast asleep with the TV still on. My pets were scattered around the room, also asleep, but not too close to Puriel—just near enough to watch over her. Even Foxy was curled up, tails flicking occasionally as she dozed. I let out a quiet breath, trying not to disturb them.

Celia tiptoed over to me, an amused smile on her face. “She fell asleep watching one of those soap operas,” she whispered, glancing at the TV. “I was going to turn it off, but she seemed so into it before she knocked out.”

I looked over at the screen. It was playing yet another overly dramatic scene—something about a forbidden love and secret identities. Classic. I chuckled under my breath. “She really is addicted to those, huh?”
