The Incubus System Chapter 1050. What Is Love?

The Incubus System Chapter 1050. What Is Love?

I clicked through the images on my phone, and a calm, secluded space surrounded by trees and nothing but the sky above filled my screen. It wasn’t too far out of town, and it had the perfect blend of privacy and quiet. I could teleport us there easily, and the nighttime setting would be ideal. No crowds, no unwanted attention—just me, Puriel, and the stars.

I’d set up a blanket, bring some candles, and maybe even find some soft music to play in the background. It would be simple, but elegant. Intimate. Just the kind of romantic atmosphere Puriel needed. The stars would do the rest, and with any luck, the night would be perfect.

"I'm a genius!" I said aloud, grinning to myself as the plan solidified in my mind. I never felt this proud of myself—this was going to work. It wasn’t over-the-top like a hot air balloon. It was thoughtful, it was private, and most importantly, it gave us the perfect setting for something meaningful to happen.

I quickly made a checklist in my head, blanket, candles, and some light music. I could handle all of that in minutes. As for the stargazing spot, I could easily open the portal there. I just needed to go to that place first.

Grabbing my phone again, I searched for a few soft instrumental tracks that would suit the mood—something subtle, soothing, and romantic but not cheesy. I smirked to myself, scrolling through playlists. Perfect, I thought. I wasn’t just going to wing this; I was actually putting in effort for once.

‘Perfect…’ I grinned. What I had to do was go to that place and check it out.

Puriel’s PoV

Puriel’s eyes were glued to the rectangular object in front of her—what Ethan called a "TV." She marveled at the images flashing across the screen, a device that seemed more magical than any spell she had ever cast in her long existence. It played stories, moving pictures, complete with sound and colors, filled with romantic scenes that tugged at her heart in ways she hadn’t expected. The emotions, the passion, the drama—it was like seeing the dream world she had constructed in her mind but brought to life in vivid, overwhelming detail.

Another grin appeared on her lips, her heart strangely light as she watched the scene. It was a colossal movie set in the middle ages, filled with war and treachery. A man, tall and rugged, had rescued a woman—his enemy, no less—and whisked her away from the bloodshed. They fled the battlefield, escaping into the peace of a quiet village where they could live out their days in love and safety, away from the horrors.

Puriel knew it was just a story, a fake scene acted out by humans for entertainment, but still, it resonated with her. She could feel the depth of their longing for each other, the desire to be free of the burdens their worlds had placed on them. It made her happy, even if she didn’t fully understand why. It was like watching a dream come true—a dream she didn’t know she had.

Her thoughts drifted back to Ethan. She now understood, in a way, why he had seemed so bored when she had tried to tell him stories in the dream world. He had probably seen countless stories like this, stories that were polished, scripted, and far more interesting than anything she could have come up with. A small giggle escaped her lips, realizing how silly her dream-world conversations must have seemed to him. ‘This is also good,’ she thought.

But even as she watched the movie, the romance stirred something deeper inside her. Something that had been quietly gnawing at her ever since she had been freed from the crystal. It was strange—she had never imagined herself feeling this connected to human drama, let alone romantic love. But the longer she watched, the more it reminded her of something closer to home, something she had always struggled to understand.

‘Maybe this is what made my sister stay here, in the human world,’ Puriel thought, her eyes softening. Her sister--- Ethan’s ancestor, had chosen to leave the celestial realm and stay in the human world, a choice that had shocked many. She had fallen in love with a man—someone no one expected her to love, someone no angel should have been with.

‘Maybe she knew,’ Puriel mused, her mind turning the possibilities over. ‘Maybe she knew all along that her husband was a demon king.’

Her sister, a reasonable, powerful angel, had chosen to stay with a demon, of all creatures. And not just any demon—a king. She had thrown away her life in the celestial realm, her duties, her connection to their world, for the sake of love. For a man who, by all logic, should have been her enemy.

She remembered how her sister had carried his child and sacrificed her life to protect her husband when the angels attacked them. She was there and she watched the battle with her own eyes.

The thought both fascinated and confused Puriel. She understood the longing for connection, for love—she felt it herself after centuries of isolation. But the part she couldn’t grasp was the sacrifice. How could her sister give up everything for one person, especially a demon? Why?

Puriel’s hands tightened in her lap. She had always looked up to her sister, always admired her wisdom. And yet, when her sister had made that choice, it had baffled Puriel. Even now, after everything, she still couldn’t fully understand why she had done it. What was it about love that made her throw away her wings, her place in the celestial order, her entire existence, for the sake of one man?

‘Is that what love feels like?’ Puriel thought, her eyes drifting back to the TV. ‘Is that why she chose to stay, even knowing what he was?’ She longed to feel that—what her sister had felt. The desire, the devotion. The willingness to sacrifice everything for someone else. But even as she yearned for it, she feared it. Could she ever be like her sister? Could she ever throw herself so fully into someone else’s life, into someone else’s arms?
