‘Damn… She is a real high angel,’ I thought. She usually acted kind of childish around me, which was nothing like the angelic image she should have.
We stepped inside the chamber. In the middle of the room, bathed in an otherworldly light, stood the crystal. It was massive, easily the size of a small building, and it gleamed like the largest, most flawless diamond I had ever seen. The surface of the crystal was smooth and polished, reflecting the soft light that seemed to emanate from within it. The glow was not harsh but almost serene.
This was the real crystal, the one that had been hidden away from the world for centuries. The one that had fueled the power of the serpent kingdom, the demon hunters, and the vaccines they created.
Without thinking, I began to move forward. The closer I got, the more I could feel the intensity of Puriel’s energy radiating from it. It wasn’t just a pulse; it was alive, making every step heavier than the last. But I couldn’t stop. I needed to see her.
I stood before the large, glowing crystal. I could barely make out a figure inside, just a silhouette against the pale light within the gem.
"Well, well... there you are," I muttered, half to myself. A smirk played on my lips as I crossed my arms. "Hey, I’m here. Aren’t you going to greet me or something? Puriel?" My voice was casual, teasing. I wasn't worried about what was coming next.
Zalira moved beside me. Her sharp eyes narrowed as she observed the crystal. “She’s trapped inside,” Zalira said, her tone tense. “I never saw her open her eyes.”
But before Zalira could say more, there was a flicker—a shimmer of light—and suddenly, standing before me in her ethereal, transparent form, was Puriel. She hovered, but her expression was anything but welcoming. Her lips pressed into a tight line, eyes narrowing in suspicion as she glared at me.
Zalira and Mia gasped in shock. The two lamias instinctively retreated, their tails coiling beneath them as they regarded the angel warily. I could feel the tension rolling off them, and I didn’t blame them. Puriel had that effect—divine beings always had that unsettling aura.
Puriel’s eyes locked onto mine, her frown deepening. "Who are you?" Her voice was cold and sharp. "How do you know my name?"
I chuckled softly, shaking my head. "Oh, right," I muttered under my breath, remembering my appearance. No wonder she didn’t recognize me.
I snapped my fingers.
[You have deactivated your Camouflage skill.]
Instantly, I stood before her in my incubus form.
Puriel’s eyes widened in surprise before softening into something much more familiar. “Ethan!” she exclaimed, rushing forward with a burst of joy. Without hesitation, she wrapped her arms around me.
But the joy didn't last. In mere seconds, she pulled back, suspicion creeping into her gaze as she scanned me over more carefully. “Wait…” she began, her voice suddenly doubtful. “Are you really Ethan? I mean… you’ve become a demon lord, right?” Her eyes narrowed again, this time with a mixture of concern and confusion. “Why can’t I feel your aura at all?”
I sighed, rolling my eyes as I ruffled a hand through my dark hair. “I’m hiding it,” I replied, exasperation clear in my tone. “There’s no way I can walk around this world exposing myself like that. Do you think a coffee shop would open their doors wide if a full-blown Demon Lord showed up on their doorstep?”
Puriel blinked, then frowned. "You have a point," she conceded, crossing her arms. Her piercing gaze moved between me, Zalira, and Mia.
Puriel's wings fluttered slightly as she turned toward Zalira, narrowing her eyes. "I know you," she said. She lifted a finger, pointing directly at the serpent queen. "You’re the Serpent Queen, aren't you?"
Zalira took a small step back. Her eyes briefly flashed with surprise before they cooled to their usual calm demeanor. Still, I could sense the tension in her posture, the way her fingers subtly twitched toward her side.
"Yes," Zalira responded, her voice steady but measured. "I am."
Puriel’s frown deepened, her brows knitting together in confusion. Her gaze darted between Zalira and me, something not quite clicking for her, at least not yet. Then, as if she’d caught a scent she didn’t like, her nose wrinkled in distaste. "Why... Do you smell like him?" she asked, her tone suspicious, pointing a trembling finger at me now.
I chuckled under my breath. "Go ahead. Take a guess."
Puriel fell silent for a moment, her brows furrowed in concentration as the pieces began to fall into place. Her eyes flicked back to Zalira, and then back to me. She gasped, her hand shooting up to cover her mouth in a gesture of pure shock. "Oh my goddess…" Her voice was filled with disbelief. "You’ve slept with him?"
There was a mixture of disgust and horror in her expression as her wide, disbelieving eyes locked on me, as if I had done something utterly unforgivable. It wasn’t the first time I'd been looked at like that, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last. I raised an eyebrow, giving her my most nonchalant smirk.
"Bingo," I said, the word rolling off my tongue casually, as if it were no big deal at all.
Puriel’s mouth opened and closed a few times as she struggled to find the words. Her wings twitched in agitation, and she floated a little closer to me. Her Thearitic demeanor returned, that holier-than-thou attitude that always made me want to roll my eyes.
"Why would you… How could you…" She started to speak, her voice filled with disbelief, her hands gesturing wildly as if trying to express the sheer madness of the situation. But before she could finish whatever righteous tirade she was about to launch into, I cut her off.
"I’m the Incubus Lord, remember?" I said, my tone indifferent, as if I was explaining something to a child. "You were the one who said it yourself. I’m the king of perverts, aren’t I?"
