The Incubus System Chapter 1021. The Strongest Demon Hunter is The Great Demon Himself

The Incubus System Chapter 1021. The Strongest Demon Hunter is The Great Demon Himself

This might be something minor if it happened to a normal woman, but Zalira wasn't just anyone. She was the queen. The queen of the serpents, no less. Ruler of a kingdom. Trust didn’t come easy to her. In fact, it barely came at all. From the start, Zalira had always kept her guard up. Walls fortified around her heart. Even if she acted calm, confident, and casual on the surface, I knew her better than most. Her trust issues ran deep.

I could understand why. If I had been in her position, I would’ve likely ended up worse off. So I didn’t blame Mia for worrying. In fact, I shared her concern. Zalira was strong, but even the strongest can break. And to see someone like her begin to trust again—especially a demon like me—was nothing short of a miracle.

Zalira sighed. She gently patted Mia’s head, her fingers weaving through her sister’s silver hair. "You make everything sound like such a big deal," she said, her voice light, almost teasing.

Mia pulled back slightly, a pout forming on her face. "Of course, it’s a big deal!" she protested, her voice rising in pitch. Her arms tightened around Zalira's waist for emphasis.

Zalira cut her off with a raised hand. "Is it because he’s a demon? The son of the demon king?" Her tone was casual, but the look in her eyes said something else. She was daring Mia to continue. To challenge her choice.

Before Mia could respond, I decided to step in. "It’s not only that, Zalira," I interrupted, standing from where I’d been leaning casually against the wall.

I snapped my fingers. My dark aura swirled around me, enveloping me. In the blink of an eye, my usual attire shifted and reformed into the dark, regal suit I had worn when I entered this room earlier.

In a single, fluid motion, I sat down casually in the lounge chair, deactivating my demonic form. The black aura dissipated, revealing my human form beneath it.

Zalira’s eyes widened in surprise, and I could see the recognition flicker in them. She knew exactly who I was in this form. Not just because I had shared it with her, but because this name—this face—was the subject of countless conversations within the demon hunter organization. I knew Zalira had heard my name whispered long before she ever met me.

“That’s because I’m also the demon hunter organization’s target," I said, my voice calm.

Despite the change in my appearance, I didn’t falter. I still carried myself like Damian, the prince of the demon world. Still, I couldn’t deny that seeing me like this had shaken her, even if only slightly.

“Ethan Strongheart…” Zalira whispered, her voice barely above a breath. She spoke my human name as if it were a curse, her eyes narrowing in thought.

“Correct,” I stated, locking eyes with Zalira. Her eyes flickered. I could see mixed emotions behind them—surprise, frustration, maybe even a little fear. Not that she’d ever admit it.

I could see the wheels turning in her head, processing the gravity of what I’d just revealed. It was crazy, really, this whole situation. The greatest demon hunter they were so intent on creating, the one they believed would save them from the demonic threat, was me—the very demon they were preparing to destroy.

Zalira let out an ironic scoff, her lips curling into a smirk that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “So, the one we want to turn into the strongest demon hunter to fight the great demon is the great demon himself?” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. She rubbed her temples as if the thought itself gave her a headache.

I nodded. “Actually, I know you guys aren’t just planning to turn me into the strongest demon hunter. You’re planning to make me your puppet,” I said, my eyes never leaving hers.

Zalira let out a frustrated sigh and pinched the bridge of her nose. “This is crazy…” she muttered under her breath. Then, she turned to Mia, her gaze sharp and accusatory. “Did you know about this too? About his dual identity?”

Mia hesitated, biting her lower lip before nodding slowly. “Yes… I knew,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “Sorry, I didn’t tell you from the start.”

Zalira’s frown deepened, her eyes narrowing at her sister. “Did you also tell him that I was one of the senators in the organization and about the plan to make him a puppet?”

Before Mia could answer, I stepped in, cutting through the tension like a blade. “I found that out myself, Zalira,” I said, my voice steady. “The great demon doesn’t go around fighting demons for nothing. I’ve gathered a lot of information. It was hard but it didn’t mean it was untraceable.”

Zalira’s eyes widened, and for a split second, I saw a flicker of vulnerability. She masked it quickly, her expression hardening once more. “You knew?” she asked, disbelief coloring her tone.

I shrugged nonchalantly. “Of course. I also knew the truth about my human father’s death and all,” I stated again, my tone calm as if I was simply discussing the weather.

Zalira’s frown deepened, her sharp eyes narrowing as she tried to piece together what I was saying. “Wait, what do you mean by human father?” she asked, confusion evident in her voice. Her gaze shifted between me and Mia, as if searching for answers in our expressions.

I smiled, leaning back into the lounge chair with a relaxed air. “You should also ask why I said the angel in the crystal is my aunt,” I added casually, watching as Zalira’s confusion grew. “And why can my blood match the holy vaccine?”

Zalira blinked. Her expression was a mix of disbelief and frustration. Her regal composure was cracking once again.

“What?” she muttered, clearly baffled. She wasn’t used to feeling out of control, and it was starting to show. “What are you talking about?”

I chuckled softly. “I’m a half, Zalira. Half demon, half angel.”

Her eyes widened in shock, the surprise evident even through her usually stoic mask. “What?” she repeated, this time louder.

“Let me explain it to you,” I stated.
