The Incubus System Chapter 992. Will This Work?

The Incubus System Chapter 992. Will This Work?

I could see the mixed emotions in Mia's eyes as she mentioned the crystal. There was a blend of sorry, confusion, and a hint of fear. It was something she hadn’t expected to discover, something she didn’t fully understand until I had explained its true nature. The crystal contained a real angel, whose angelic power had been siphoned off for years to create a holy vaccine that became the source of demon hunters’ power.

The idea of releasing Puriel wasn’t something to be taken lightly. Though Puriel had said she was willing to share some of her power even after being freed, the reality was that, once free, Puriel could leave and never return. The Serpent Kingdom would lose a crucial commodity, and that was something the kingdom’s rulers wouldn’t easily accept.

I reached out and held Mia’s hand gently, feeling the tension in her grip. Her fingers were cold, her hold firm. She turned to me, her eyes searching mine for reassurance. I smiled softly, trying to convey the certainty I felt. "Look at the bright side. Thanks to that, I found out my great-great aunt is trapped there."

Mia’s expression softened slightly, a small smile tugging at her lips. "I suppose that’s one way to look at it," she said, her voice tinged with a mixture of relief and uncertainty.

I nodded, squeezing her hand gently. "It’s more than that. Finding Puriel means we have a chance to change things for the better. Yes, it’s complicated and risky, but it’s also an opportunity."

She sighed deeply, her shoulders relaxing slightly as she leaned back against the sofa. "I know. It’s just… difficult. The kingdom has relied on her power for so long. If we free her, it could destabilize everything." Her voice wavered, reflecting the weight of the decision.

"We’ll find a way," I said firmly, my voice steady and confident. "We can’t let fear of change hold us back. There has to be a solution that works for everyone."

Mia looked down, her fingers absentmindedly tracing patterns on the fabric of the sofa. "You make it sound so simple, but it’s not. The council, the people… they won’t easily accept losing such a vital resource." Her brow furrowed, reflecting the complexity of the situation.

"I understand that," I said gently, tilting her chin up so she could meet my gaze. "But maybe we can find an alternative. Puriel is willing to help us, and she might have insights we haven’t considered."

She looked up, her eyes meeting mine with a glimmer of hope. Her grip on my hand tightened slightly, a sign of her growing resolve. "You really believe we can do this, don’t you?"

"I do," I replied, squeezing her hand reassuringly. "We’ve come this far. I believe we can find a way to make this work."

Mia’s eyes softened further, a mixture of determination and trust shining through. She took a deep breath and nodded. “Yeah," she said softly, her voice filled with newfound confidence.

We sat there in silence for a moment, our conversation hanging in the air. The room, though elegantly furnished, felt like a haven after the formalities of the evening. The quiet allowed us to gather our thoughts and prepare for the next step.

"Do you want to eat or drink something while waiting?" Mia asked, breaking the silence. According to her, a servant would usually inform us when the queen was ready to meet us. So what we had to do was wait.

"Nah, I'm good. I already ate plenty at the party," I replied, my eyes drifting over her body, unable to resist a smirk. "But I wouldn't mind 'eating' something else," I added, my tone turning suggestive as my gaze lingered on her lips. Of course, what I meant was sex.

Mia rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide the hint of a smile. "You can’t do that now. We’re waiting for my sister," she reminded me, though the slight blush on her cheeks betrayed her thoughts.

"I know," I said with a chuckle, leaning closer to her. "I was joking."

Mia shook her head, her smile growing as she lightly swatted my arm. "You always manage to lighten the mood, even in serious moments."

I leaned back on the sofa, feeling a bit more relaxed now that the initial tension had passed. "It’s a talent. Keeps me sane amidst all the craziness."

Mia nodded, her expression turning thoughtful again. "This whole situation with Puriel… it’s going to require a delicate balance. We need to find a way to present it to the council that doesn’t incite panic."

"Agreed," I said, my tone growing serious once more. "We need to show them that freeing Puriel doesn’t mean losing everything. It’s about transitioning to something sustainable, something that benefits everyone in the long run."

"Do you think they’ll listen?" she asked, a hint of doubt in her voice as she traced the patterns on the sofa with her free hand.

I looked at her, my expression firm and confident. "They will, and they should," I stated firmly. My smile faded as I added, "Or I will use rough methods."

Mia’s eyes widened slightly, a mix of concern and understanding flashing across her face. She squeezed my hand tighter. "Damian, please remember this. The last thing we need is to escalate things to violence,” she reminded me.

"I know," I said, my tone softening as I brought her hand to my lips and kissed it gently. "But we can't let them stand in the way of what’s right. If persuasion and diplomacy don’t work, we have to be ready to take stronger actions."

Mia sighed, her fingers intertwined with mine, her touch warm and reassuring. "Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. The council and my sister can be stubborn, but they’re not unreasonable. If we present our case well, they might see the benefits."

"We'll give it our best shot," I agreed, my voice steady with determination. "But for sure… I won’t let anyone jeopardize this mission.”
