'Well, despite my royal status, I'm still a 19-year-old guy,' I thought, reminding myself that no matter how much I tried to be perfect and prepared, there would always be topics I couldn't understand. I was reflecting on this when I saw Pearl and Diamond approaching us. They glided through the crowd with the same effortless grace that had captivated everyone earlier, their gowns shimmering like liquid silver in the soft light of the hall.
Pearl and Diamond greeted the couple first, their smiles radiant and eyes sparkling with mischief. Pearl, her movements fluid and deliberate, spoke first. "Lady Elara, Lord Vincent," she said, her voice smooth and melodic. "Congratulations on your engagement."
Elara's smile was genuine as she responded, her happiness evident. "Thank you, Lady Pearl, Lady Diamond. We’re so glad you could make it."
Diamond, her gaze shifting to Mia and me, nodded with an elegant tilt of her head. "And Your Highness, it’s lovely to see you again." Her tone was warm, but there was a hint of something playful beneath it.
Before Mia could respond, Pearl’s eyes locked onto mine, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Oh, you are taking Mr. Lucio with you," she said, her tone light and teasing, her gaze unwavering and confident.
Diamond added with a seductive smile, "You are handsome as always." Her voice was smooth, and the compliment felt almost like a caress.
Mia, sensing their intentions, stared at Diamond with a protective, almost possessive look. 'Hey, he is mine now. You two already had your turn,' her eyes seemed to say. Her body tensed slightly, ready to assert her claim if needed.
The twins shrugged nonchalantly, their expressions unbothered by Mia's silent claim. They exchanged a quick, knowing glance before turning back to me. I smiled, attempting to defuse the tension. "Thank you," I said politely. "You two surely have taken a lot of attention tonight, haven't you?"
Elara, glancing around the room, nodded in agreement. "You certainly have caught the eye of many here," she remarked, her tone appreciative but slightly cautious.
"It’s true," I added, noticing the numerous glances directed at the twins. "You seem to be the center of attention."
Pearl responded with a tone of pride, her head held high. "Well, we are the only Krakens here. So it's understandable."
Mia, with a flat, almost exasperated gaze, pointed out, "Your cousins are literally there," nodding towards a group of other krakens in the distance.
Diamond, never missing a beat, corrected her sister with a smug smile. "The only beautiful Krakens."
Mia almost rolled her eyes at this, but Elara and Vincent seemed to take it in stride, chuckling at the twins' confidence.
"You certainly know how to make an entrance," Vincent said, his tone good-natured and slightly amused.
"Of course," Pearl responded, her smile never wavering. "We wouldn’t want to disappoint." Her eyes sparkled with the satisfaction of a well-delivered performance.
“By the way, aren’t you guys feeling hot? Or is it just me?” Lord Vincent said, his confusion evident, fanning himself. His face was beginning to flush, his eyes darting around uneasily. The discomfort in his voice and the redness creeping up his cheeks made it clear he was feeling the effects.
I quickly realized it was because of my essence that Pearl and Diamond had used. It had the effect of making those of the opposite sex more attracted to them, and even though Lord Vincent was newly engaged and deeply in love, he was not immune to its effects. I pressed my lips together, understanding the situation but unable to do anything about it at the moment.
Mia glared at the twins, her eyes full of accusation as if to say, ‘You guys need to leave now.’ Her gaze was sharp and filled with unspoken demands.
The twins exchanged glances, holding back their cringes as they realized their fault. They quickly excused themselves, their usual confident demeanor slightly faltering.
"It seems we’ve caused a bit of a stir," Pearl said, her tone light but her eyes apologetic. She gave a small, respectful bow. "We should probably circulate and let you all enjoy the rest of the evening."
"Yes," Diamond agreed, nodding gracefully. "Congratulations again, Lady Elara, Lord Vincent. It was lovely seeing you." Her smile was warm but tinged with regret.
With that, they gracefully exited, their departure almost as dramatic as their arrival. They moved through the crowd with the same elegance, their gowns shimmering as they went, but there was a subtle haste in their steps. As soon as they were gone, the atmosphere around us seemed to settle, the tension easing away.
Lord Vincent visibly relaxed, letting out a breath he seemed to have been holding. "Now it suddenly gets cooler?" he remarked, frowning slightly. He fixed his collar, trying to regain his composure.
Elara gave him a concerned look, her brows knitting together. "Are you feeling all right, Vincent?" she asked softly, placing a hand on his arm.
He nodded, still looking a bit flustered. "Yes, I think so. Just a bit… overwhelmed, perhaps," he admitted, his voice steadying as he spoke.
Mia seized the opportunity to steer the conversation back to safer territory. "So, Elara, tell us more about your plans for the wedding. I’m sure everyone is excited to hear."
Elara brightened at the topic, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Oh, we have so much planned!" she began, her enthusiasm evident. Soon, the conversation was filled with discussions about venues, decorations, and guest lists. Her hands moved animatedly as she described the arrangements, her excitement infectious.
I listened, nodding and smiling at appropriate intervals. I spent the rest of the evening much the same way. It was tiring, at least for me. I had to admit, I preferred the type of party in the demon world, where everyone was free to have a good time, where the air was filled with uninhibited laughter, music, and revelry. Not this kind of formal event where I had to maintain a polite smile all night and listen to conversations I barely understood.
