The Incubus System Chapter 982. A Little Mischief Never Hurt Anyone, Right?

The Incubus System Chapter 982. A Little Mischief Never Hurt Anyone, Right?

We didn't stay in the room for too long. As I expected, Mia said we should immediately go to the hall as soon as possible. She gave me a bit of hair spray on my hair to make sure it was in a neat condition before we headed out of the room. To be honest, I felt a little strange since it felt like she was a mom dressing up her kid to get ready for a formal party.

This wasn't my first formal party, but Mia insisted that this one was on a different level. Not only would her sister, the queen, be attending, but there would also be several delegates from other countries, such as ambassadors. And if I wanted to investigate more about the crystal and find a more peaceful way to release the Puriel within, I would have to approach the queen.

I couldn't help but admire the grandeur of the building, especially the design. It was so authentic and different from Aeros or even from the demon world’s palace. This place wasn't the palace, but rather a building with a huge hall specifically designed for formal events like this. Any noble could use it. The walls were adorned with intricate tapestries depicting the history of the Serpent Kingdom, and the soft glow of chandeliers illuminated the polished marble floors. The atmosphere was rich with the scent of exotic flowers and expensive perfumes. Something I never found.

"Damian, are you ready?" Mia asked, her voice a mix of excitement and nervousness.

I smirked, adjusting my suit. "Always, my princess. Let's make an entrance they won't forget."

She rolled her eyes but smiled, taking my arm. As we walked, I could feel the curious and envious stares of the other nobles. Mia, the crown princess, and me, her mysterious companion. The guards at the entrance of the hall opened the grand double doors, and we stepped inside.

“Her Royal Highness, Princess Mia and her partner have arrived!” the guard announced.

The hall was massive, with high ceilings and large windows that let in the evening light. There were only a few people there, as the event was still early, but I could already feel the buzz of anticipation in the air. Nobles in elaborate dresses and suits milled about, talking in hushed tones, their eyes flicking towards us as we entered.

I leaned down to whisper in Mia's ear, "I think they're all jealous of how good we look together."

She chuckled softly, squeezing my arm. "Just remember to be on your best behavior, Damian. We need to impress my sister, the nobles, and the delegates."

"Of course, of course," I replied, though I couldn't resist adding, "But a little mischief never hurt anyone, right?"

She shot me a warning look, but there was a glimmer of amusement in her eyes. We made our way through the hall, nodding and greeting various nobles. Mia was in her element, gracefully navigating the social landscape, while I played the part of the charming and enigmatic companion. It wasn't long before we were approached by a tall, stern-looking man in a military uniform. His eyes were sharp, and I could sense the power radiating from him.

"Princess Mia," he said with a formal bow. "It's an honor to see you again."

"General Hadrian," Mia replied with a nod. "May I introduce Damian Lucio?"

The general turned his gaze to me, and I met his eyes with a confident smile. "A pleasure to meet you, General."

His eyes narrowed slightly, and he tilted his head, studying me. "I've never seen you before. Have you been to any of the previous events?"

Mia stepped in smoothly. "No, General. I've never brought or introduced him before. I decided to use this event to introduce him."

The general's expression softened slightly, but there was still a hint of suspicion in his eyes. "I see. Well, it's always good to meet new allies."

"Indeed," I replied, maintaining my smile. "I look forward to working with you and supporting the kingdom."

He gave a curt nod. "Likewise. If you'll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to."

As he walked away, I could feel Mia's tension beside me. I gently squeezed her hand, trying to reassure her. "Don't worry, Mia. We've got this."

She took a deep breath and nodded. "I know. Let's just find my sister and get this over with."

We continued to make our way through the hall. The queen hadn’t arrived yet, nor had the noble couple for whom this engagement party was being held—Mia’s cousin and her soon-to-be fiancé.

I couldn’t help but notice the attention I was garnering. It wasn’t just the usual curious glances; several women turned to me and whispered among themselves. I could feel their eyes lingering, assessing, and perhaps even admiring. A few of them even gave me winks, their expressions a mix of intrigue and flirtation. I smiled back, more out of formality than genuine interest, but it seemed to encourage them.

"It seems I'm quite popular," I murmured, keeping my voice low.

She glanced up at me, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, you are rather handsome. And mysterious. Nobles love a good mystery."

I chuckled softly. "I suppose I can't blame them."

We reached the center of the hall, where the crowd was thickest, a group of women began to approach us. They were elegantly dressed, their gowns shimmering under the soft light. The leader of the group was a striking woman with dark hair and sharp features.

"Princess Mia," she greeted with a warm smile. "It's wonderful to see you."

"Lady Seraphina," Mia replied, returning the smile. "It's been too long."

Lady Seraphina's gaze shifted to me, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "And who is this charming gentleman?"

"This is Damian Lucio," Mia introduced. "Damian, this is Lady Seraphina."

I offered a polite bow. "A pleasure to meet you, Lady Seraphina."

"The pleasure is mine, Mr. Lucio," she replied, her smile widening. "I must say, you are quite the topic of conversation tonight."

I raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Oh? I hope it's all good things."

She laughed softly, a melodic sound that drew the attention of the others around us. "Mostly good, I assure you. Though, there is always a hint of curiosity when someone new appears at such an important event."

"Well, I do my best to keep things interesting," I said with a playful smirk.
