The Incubus System Chapter 960. Date Panic Attack

The Incubus System Chapter 960. Date Panic Attack

Once I came out of the portal, I was in Emma's room. This time there was an immediate sense of calm that washed over me. The room was filled with a tranquil aura. The feeling was like slipping into a warm bath after a cold, exhausting day. Maybe it was because every memory I had in this room was a pleasant one.

My eyes immediately caught sight of Emma. She was sitting on a small, plush sofa, her legs curled up beneath her. Her expression was serene. She looked up as I entered, her lips curving into a soft smile that felt like a balm to my weary soul.

The room itself was dim, the only light coming from candles scattered throughout. Their soft, flickering glow cast dancing shadows on the walls, creating an intimate and almost magical ambiance. The smell of fragrant flowers filled the air, a blend of jasmine and lavender that was soothing and almost hypnotic.

Emma had laid out an array of bite-sized foods on a small table beside her. They reminded me of the elegant snacks Camila and Olivia often provided during our meetings. Finger foods were indeed less obvious to bring into a room than a full meal. It was a subtle act of thoughtfulness on her part.

“Ethan,” she greeted me, her voice a soft melody that seemed to harmonize perfectly with the flickering candlelight. She stood up from her seat, and I swear the world paused for a moment. Her thin satin dress clung to her body in a way that was both elegant and undeniably alluring, highlighting her every curve. Her silver hair flowed sweetly down her back. My heart started pounding so fast I thought it might burst out of my chest. It was weird, right? I mean, I'd often slept beside her, yet here I was, standing there, stunned like a guy seeing his girlfriend on their first date.

“Hey, Emma,” I finally managed to say, though my voice came out a bit rough, like I had forgotten how to speak. She smiled, and I felt my knees go weak. This was ridiculous. Why was I acting like this? I’d seen her in every state imaginable, from her morning bed head to her victorious battle cries. But tonight, something about the ambiance and her presence was making me feel like a nervous teenager again.

‘Wait, am I wearing proper clothes?’ I thought, suddenly panicking. My hands flew to my shirt, smoothing out imaginary wrinkles, and I glanced down at my trousers, praying I was wearing something decent. I let out a small sigh of relief to find I wasn’t in my usual jeans and t-shirt, but rather a somewhat decent shirt and trousers. Then another thought crossed my mind, one that sent a jolt of fear through me.

‘Crap! I haven’t brushed my teeth!’ My heart raced even faster as I wondered if there was any fried rice from dinner stuck in my teeth. I subtly tried to cover my mouth, suddenly self-conscious. ‘Also, I haven’t used cologne!’ I reminded myself again, feeling a wave of mortification wash over me. Seriously, these weren’t things that usually crossed my mind, but the ambiance, the soft glow of the candles, the fragrant flowers, and Emma’s presence made me hyper-aware of every little detail.

“You okay?” Emma asked, her eyes twinkling with amusement. She walked over to me, her steps graceful and unhurried, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine,” I replied, my voice a bit higher than usual. I cleared my throat, trying to regain some semblance of cool. “Just, uh… I-I forgot to brush my teeth and wear my cologne," I admitted, the words tumbling out of my mouth before I could stop them. Immediately, I felt a hot flush creeping up my neck and coloring my cheeks. It was the kind of thing that would have made me cringe if someone else had said it, and now here I was, sounding utterly ridiculous.

Emma's smile widened, her eyes dancing with amusement. "Ethan, you really know how to make a girl feel special," she teased, her laughter like a soft, tinkling bell in the serene stillness of the room.

Sweet. That word made my heart do a weird flip-flop.

I scratched the back of my head, feeling even more like an idiot. "I know, I know, it sounds stupid," I said, pressing my lips together in an effort to stop myself from saying anything else embarrassing. This wasn’t like me at all. I was supposed to be the demon lord, feared by enemies and revered by allies. But here I was, standing in front of Emma, blushing like a teenager. The title of demon lord might make me sound older and more intimidating, but beneath it all, I was still a nineteen-year-old guy who wanted to have fun and feel normal.

I thought she would laugh at me or maybe tease me mercilessly. I braced myself for it, feeling the heat of embarrassment burning my face. But instead, Emma surprised me. She brought her face closer to mine and sniffed me, her nose brushing lightly against my skin. "You don't smell, don't worry," she said in a relaxed tone, her eyes sparkling with that familiar mix of mischief and affection.

Before I could react, she closed the gap between us and kissed me. Her lips were soft and warm, and I felt a jolt of electricity coursing through my body. She slipped her tongue between my lips and my teeth, exploring my mouth for a brief, intoxicating moment. I could taste her sweetness mixed with the faint remnants of the fried rice I'd eaten earlier. Then, just as suddenly, she pulled away, leaving me breathless and craving more.

"But I can taste the fried rice," she said with a playful grin. "Was it Celia who made it?" she asked, her tone casual and light.

I blinked, still reeling from the kiss. "Uh, yeah," I managed to say, my voice sounding strange to my own ears.
