The Incubus System Chapter 954. Sometimes, I Think He Forgets He’s Not Invincible

Celia’s PoV

They all paused to look at Ethan, who was fast asleep on the couch. It wasn't a strange sight to see Ethan napping, but seeing him take a nap on the couch like this was a rare occurrence. For Celia, it was a moment that sparked a deep sense of nostalgia.

Her gaze softened as she looked at her brother, and for a moment, it was as if she had traveled back in time. She remembered a simpler era when they were just a normal family—or at least, that’s what she had always thought before they knew about the rare bloodline that flowed in both Ethan’s and her veins. Back then, Ethan napping on the couch would have been a common sight, and she couldn’t help but smile at the memory.

Celia could almost hear the echoes of their childhood in the quiet room. She remembered the times when Ethan would come home from school, drop his backpack by the door, and collapse onto the couch with a sigh of relief. He would often fall asleep there, exhausted from the day’s activities, his face peaceful and free of worries.

The sight of Ethan sleeping now brought back those memories vividly. He looked more human, more like the brother she had grown up with, rather than the powerful demon lord he had become. His face, relaxed in sleep, showed none of the burdens he carried daily. For a moment, she could pretend that they were back in those simpler times, before destiny had revealed its true nature to them.

Foxy smiled gently and whispered, “He looks tired. I wonder if he's been working too much lately.”

Shadow scoffed softly. “He’s a demon lord. Physical activity won’t make him tired. I think he’s had a lot on his mind lately.”

Red glanced at Shadow with a curious look. A smirk appeared on Red’s lips. “You look indifferent, but you pay attention to His Highness in more detail than I expected.”

Shadow sighed, his feline grace evident even in his weariness. He climbed into his favorite bed near the window, curling up comfortably. “That’s just common sense,” he replied, his voice tinged with a hint of defensiveness.

Celia watched the exchange with a soft smile. She loved these moments when their little family showed its true colors, each of them expressing care in their unique ways. Her eyes returned to Ethan, his face serene in sleep, and she felt a pang of protectiveness. He carried so much weight on his shoulders, and seeing him like this reminded her of how human he still was beneath all his power.

Foxy knelt down beside the couch and brushed a lock of hair from Ethan’s forehead. “Sometimes, I think he forgets he’s not invincible,” she murmured.

Celia nodded, her thoughts echoing the same sentiment. “He’s always trying to do everything for everyone. It’s easy to forget he needs to take care of himself too.”

Shadow, from his cozy spot, added, “He’s probably overthinking things again. It’s what he does. He worries about everyone and everything.”

Red lay down next to the couch, his head resting on his paws as he looked up at Ethan. “That’s true. But it’s what makes him a good leader. He cares.”

Buni chuckled softly and glanced at Shadow. "You know, I’m surprised that you're paying a lot of attention to him."

Shadow's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of irritation creeping into his voice. "It’s just common sense," he muttered, his defensive nature showing through.

Rave, perched quietly on the back of a chair, ruffled his feathers and spoke in a hushed tone. "Shh, you guys are too loud. You'll wake him."

Foxy nodded in agreement, her voice low and soothing. "Rave is right. We shouldn't be here. He might wake up."

Red, lying comfortably near the couch, lifted his head. "But we have nothing to do but play, and it will bother him if we do."

Celia hummed thoughtfully, looking around at the group. An idea sparked in her mind, and she suggested in the same low voice, "How about we play board games in my room?"

Red’s ears perked up, and his tail wagged with excitement. "Let’s go!" he said eagerly, though keeping his voice down.

Shadow rolled his eyes, though there was a hint of a smile on his lips. "How troublesome," he sighed, but still, he stood up from his bed, ready to follow Celia.

Buni jumped up and down in excitement, though silently to avoid disturbing Ethan. The sight of the little rabbit bouncing around brought a smile to Celia’s face.

Celia turned to Foxy, her expression serious yet gentle. "Take them upstairs first," she whispered. "I'll come later."

Foxy nodded. "Come on, everyone," she said softly, leading the way to the stairs.

Red trotted happily after her, his tail wagging in anticipation of their game. Buni followed suit, still bouncing with excitement. Shadow trailed behind, his movements graceful and unhurried, though he couldn't hide the slight curiosity in his eyes.

Once the others had left, Celia flicked her gaze back to the sofa where Ethan lay sleeping. She noticed her cardigan draped over the back of a nearby chair and gently picked it up. With careful, quiet movements, she approached Ethan and covered him with the cardigan. It was a simple gesture, one that their father used to do when they were younger. She could vividly remember their father’s gentle hands tucking them in, making sure they were warm and safe.

After their father died, everything had changed. The responsibility seemed to fall squarely on Ethan’s shoulders. He had taken over all of it for the house and finances. It had been a massive struggle for him, especially during the early months when Celia blamed Ethan for their father's death. Her grief and anger had been misdirected, and Ethan bore the brunt of it without complaint.

But Ethan had survived. He persevered through the darkest times, and somehow, they had made it to this point. Fate had taken a twisted turn, leading Ethan down a path that neither of them could have predicted. Now, he was a demon lord, a far cry from the young man who had once shouldered his family’s burdens alone. It was painful for Celia to see how much he had changed, how much the world had asked of him.
