Ruby’s PoV
Ruby's heart sank at Ethan's words, a pang of fear gripping her chest. She didn't want to imagine a world without their contract, without Ethan by her side. She tightened her embrace, hoping to convey the depth of her feelings to him. "Please don't say that. I want this contract and I never regret it," she pleaded, her voice laced with desperation.
But Ethan gently pulled away from her embrace, his expression softening into a small smile. Ruby couldn't help but feel a flicker of relief at the sight of his reassuring smile. "I know. I'm just telling you what I think," he reassured her, his voice filled with warmth. "You've told me what's on your mind, so I think I should tell you what's on my mind too," he explained.
Ruby nodded, her eyes searching his face for any sign of uncertainty. She knew Ethan was trying to be honest with her, to share his thoughts and feelings openly. And despite her own fears and insecurities, she appreciated his honesty more than anything.
"Still... This can't change that I need to share my heart. I won't be able to make you feel better," he confessed, his voice tinged with melancholy. Ethan's words hung heavy in the air, weighing down on Ruby's heart like a stone. She could hear the sadness in his tone, could feel the weight of his burdens pressing down on him.
Ruby's heart ached at his words, the truth of his statement hitting her like a blow. She knew deep down that Ethan's heart belonged to more than just her, that he carried the weight of countless responsibilities and obligations. And yet, despite the pain it caused her, she couldn't bring herself to resent him for it.
"Lies..." Ethan's voice trailed off, followed by a heavy pause. "Maybe I can give you if you want it but I guess that would only make things worse," he continued, his sadness palpable.
Ruby shook her head, her eyes brimming with understanding and compassion. "I didn't ask for that, Ethan. Your honesty is enough for me," she assured him, her voice soft but firm. "This is good enough and I appreciate it."
She reached out to gently grasp his hand, offering him a small smile of reassurance. "I know beyond that, is impossible. You already have a lot of things in your hands," she acknowledged, her tone laced with empathy. "I don't just talk about the girls, but also your responsibility or whatever you need to do in the human world."
“Thank you for your understanding,” Ethan said, his voice tinged with gratitude as he nodded repeatedly. Ruby's understanding meant the world to him, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief knowing that she accepted him despite his flaws.
Ruby's request caught him off guard, her soft tone pulling at his heartstrings. "But just for today... Can I... ask you to stay a little longer? I just want to spend time with you as long as I can," she pleaded, her words hanging in the air like a delicate melody.
Ethan's heart swelled with warmth at her request, touched by the depth of her affection. He couldn't deny her, not when her eyes were filled with such longing and vulnerability. "Of course," he replied softly, his voice filled with tenderness.
Once again, Ruby enveloped Ethan in a warm hug, cherishing the closeness between them.
“If you want to have sex or anything, just say it to me. A simple cuddle like this is also something valuable. You don't need to always have sex every time we meet,” Ethan whispered, his voice gentle and reassuring.
Ruby felt a pang of guilt as she considered his words. “I don't mind doing it, Ethan. I mean, I enjoy it. It's just that I think you did it just based on lust,” she admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Ethan's brow furrowed in concern as he processed her words. “Ruby, our relationship is about more than just physical intimacy. It's about connection, understanding, and mutual respect. Sex is just one aspect of it,” he explained, his voice laced with sincerity.
Ruby couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort wash over her at Ethan's words. Despite the complexities of their relationship, he always seemed to know exactly what to say to put her at ease.
“I know, Ethan. I just... sometimes I'm worried that I'm not enough for you,” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan's expression softened as he reached out to gently cup her face. “You are more than enough, Ruby,” he assured her, his eyes filled with warmth and affection.
Ethan's gentle fingers ran through Ruby's hair, a soothing rhythm that eased the tension in her body.
“Lust is a part of me. But I didn't expect it to take over me. I was human. I wish for a genuine connection rather than just lust,” he confessed, his voice soft and introspective.
Ruby listened intently, her heart swelling with affection for the man she had grown to care for deeply. Despite his otherworldly nature, Ethan's desires and struggles resonated with her on a deeply human level.
"And that's what makes you my Ethan..." she whispered, her voice barely audible as she leaned into his touch. Surrounded by the warmth of Ethan's embrace, Ruby felt a sense of peace wash over her. Ruby closed her eyes, savoring the quiet intimacy they shared. It was moments like these that reminded her of the depth of their connection.
With a contented sigh, Ruby nestled closer to Ethan, her heart overflowing with love and gratitude for the man who had captured her heart in ways she never thought possible.
‘It's certainly not convenient, but maybe... it's not bad either,’ she mused internally, her thoughts swirling as she considered the situation. ‘The most important thing is... I can still be with him,’ she concluded, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she found solace in the simple fact of their connection.
