“That's what I meant,” I sighed heavily, feeling the weight of my own words. "I know this sounds like bullshit, but I hope that the servants who contract with me will serve me from the bottom of their hearts. Not because they have to or because they are bound by my contract," I explained, a tinge of sincerity laced in my voice.
It was a genuine desire, albeit tinged with a hint of uncertainty. I wanted my relationships with my servants to be built on trust and genuine affection, rather than coercion or obligation. But the reality was far more complicated than my idealistic aspirations.
I couldn't ignore the fact that my actions hadn't always aligned with my intentions. There were instances where I had resorted to manipulation and coercion, particularly with demon servants like Leon and Curtis. It was a stark reminder of the moral ambiguity that often accompanied the exercise of power.
Yet, despite these contradictions, I clung to the hope that there was still a possibility for genuine connection and understanding.
The air hung heavy between us as Celia's words settled into the room like a dense fog. "Yeah, I understand that," she said, her voice softer now, as if she were carefully navigating a minefield of emotions.
I glanced at her, catching the weight of her gaze as she leaned over me, her eyes searching mine as if looking for answers in the depths of my soul. A short silence followed, broken only by the sound of our breathing, slow and measured, as if we were both trying to calm the storm raging inside us.
I furrowed my brow, puzzled by her sudden intensity. "What?" I asked, my voice tinged with confusion.
Her response caught me off guard, disbelief evident in every syllable. "I'm surprised you're so wise about this," she said, her words hanging in the air like a challenge.
I met her gaze head-on, leaning into her with a smirk playing at the corners of my lips. "If not, I wouldn't be able to make you fall for me," I replied, the words slipping from my tongue like a dare.
A shitty smile spread across my face as I watched her reaction, the blush creeping up her cheeks betraying the embarrassment she tried to conceal.
I couldn't help but chuckle at Celia's reaction, her embarrassment palpable even from across the room. "Anyway, I'll talk to her after this," I stated, the words coming out with a sense of determination. I pushed myself up from the table, my empty plate clutched in hand as I made my way to the kitchen sink.
With a sigh, I deposited the plate into the sink, the clatter of ceramic echoing in the quiet room. I reached for a glass of water, the cool liquid soothing against my parched throat. "I just hope she can understand," I said, my voice tinged with uncertainty. Understanding was key, I knew, but whether Ruby could change her ways in a snap was another matter entirely.
Celia's response was a simple "Good," her voice still shaky despite her attempts to regain composure. I could sense the tension lingering in the air, the weight of unspoken words hanging between us like a heavy curtain.
As I settled down my glass, I turned my attention to the dishes awaiting me in the sink. With a resigned sigh, I rolled up my sleeves and began to scrub away at the remnants of our meal, the warm water cascading over my hands in a comforting stream.
"Oh right also, I will be very busy today," I stated, the words coming out in a rush as I remembered the task awaiting me. "I mean tonight," I quickly corrected myself, the slight shift in emphasis not lost on Celia.
The dishes clinked and clattered in the sink as I worked, the rhythmic sound providing a steady backdrop to our conversation.
Celia's frown deepened as she processed my words. "That's unusual," she asked, her tone laced with curiosity and a hint of concern.
I shrugged, trying to play it off casually as I turned off the tap and carefully arranged the dishes on the drying rack. "I have an appointment with Emma, Diamond, Pearl, and Mia. Also, I have a lunch appointment with Olivia and Camila," I rattled off, trying to sound nonchalant despite the weight of my schedule.
But Celia's reaction was not what I expected. She cringed, her face contorting into a look of disbelief mixed with disgust. "What the heck, brother?" she complained, her voice rising in indignation.
I paused, taken aback by her sudden outburst. "What?" I asked, furrowing my brow as I reached for a dish towel to dry my hands.
Her response was swift and cutting, her words laced with accusation. "You sound like a cheesy playboy who sleeps with lots of women!" she protested, her tone dripping with disapproval.
I recoiled, stung by her words. "Hey," I retorted, my voice tinged with defensiveness. "I have legitimate reasons for meeting with each of them."
Rave cocked his head to the side, his black feathers shimmering in the dim light of the room. "Uh... He is the king of incubus so that's normal," he reminded her, his voice surprisingly matter-of-fact given the absurdity of the situation.
Celia turned to him, her expression incredulous.
"Completely normal," Red chimed in.
Celia shot him a flat stare, her disbelief palpable even without words.
"Can't say anything since that's what incubus do," Shadow added nonchalantly.
Celia huffed in frustration, her patience wearing thin with each passing moment.
Returning her gaze to me, she looked for some semblance of reassurance, only to be met with a big, annoying grin plastered across my face. "Normal," I repeated, the word dripping with sarcasm as I folded my arms across my chest, reveling in Celia's exasperation.
Celia clicked her tongue in displeasure, her irritation palpable as she glanced around the room. I couldn't help but stop my annoying smile, sensing her frustration bubbling just beneath the surface. "Why are you angry? You know all of them," I said, my tone tinged with confusion as I approached her.
She let out a sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly as she met my gaze. "I know, but somehow hearing that gives me goosebumps," she complained again, cringing at the thought.
I couldn't help but chuckle, the memory of our wild night playing out in my mind like a vivid movie reel. "We did it all night, remember?" I said, a mischievous twinkle in my eye as I reminded her of our crazy dom play.
For a moment, she seemed utterly speechless, caught off guard by the sudden flood of memories crashing over her like a tidal wave.
