Viperax's eyes scanned the document, his brows furrowed slightly, betraying the inner turmoil he was experiencing. I watched his every movement, noting the tension in his body language as he absorbed the contents of the agreement. There was a palpable sense of reluctance in his demeanor, as if he were grappling with conflicting emotions.
Despite his evident displeasure, Viperax remained silent, his lips pressed into a thin line. I could sense the weight of his indecision hanging in the air, each passing moment stretching out into an uneasy silence. It was clear that he was hesitant to voice any objections, perhaps wary of prolonging the discussion and further delaying his departure.
I met his gaze steadily, my expression composed yet watchful. I could see the turmoil playing out behind his eyes, the struggle between his pride and the practicalities of the situation. It was a delicate balance, one that could tip in either direction with the slightest provocation.
For sure, it was clear that Viperax was eager to conclude our discussion and bring the meeting to a close. His reluctance to engage further signaled his desire to expedite the process and move on from our tense negotiations.
"Is there anything you don't agree with?" I asked, breaking the silence that had settled between us. I didn't want to prolong the discussion unnecessarily, but I needed to ensure that Viperax was fully onboard with the terms of our agreement.
Viperax responded with a disdainful snort, his displeasure evident in his curt reply. "No," he said tersely, his tone brusque. Without missing a beat, he motioned to his assistant, who promptly handed him a pen. With practiced efficiency, Viperax swiftly affixed his signature to the parchment before tossing the pen aside.
"Done," he declared, his tone final. It was clear that he was eager to bring our meeting to an end and move on to other matters.
But I wasn't quite ready to let him leave just yet. "Wait!" I called out, my voice halting his departure mid-stride. There was one final matter that needed to be addressed before he could make his exit.
Viperax paused, casting a sidelong glance in my direction. His expression was a mix of impatience and resignation, as if he were bracing himself for yet another request or demand.
With a casual flick of my fingers, I employed my telekinetic skill, causing the parchment to lift from the table and float towards me. I scrutinized the document carefully, scanning each line to ensure that Viperax's signature was present and accounted for. Satisfied that everything was in order, I glanced up at Viperax, meeting his gaze with a cool and composed expression.
"You are free to go," I stated calmly, my voice carrying a hint of finality. There was no need for further discussion or delay; our business here was concluded.
Turning my attention to Eir, I issued a brief command. "Eir, escort him," I instructed, gesturing towards Viperax with a subtle nod of my head.
With a disgruntled snort, Viperax continued his steps, his displeasure evident in every line of his posture. Without a word, he strode towards the exit of the tent, his wives and soldiers falling into step behind him. Eir and several royal soldiers moved to accompany him, their purpose clear: to ensure that Viperax made his departure without causing any further trouble.
I watched them go, my gaze lingering on Viperax's retreating form. Despite the tension that had permeated our meeting, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief as he left, knowing that our business was concluded and that he was now on his way.
Still, a small part of me remained wary, mindful of the possibility that Viperax might harbor lingering resentment or seek to cause trouble in retaliation for our confrontation. As such, I instructed Eir and the royal soldiers to keep a close watch on him, ensuring that he didn't stray from the agreed-upon path or pose a threat to anyone in the vicinity, particularly those within the healing tent.
Carefully, I rolled up the parchment, ensuring that it was neatly folded and securely fastened. With a sense of determination, I used the Dimensional Ring on my finger.
‘Inventory.’
The ring responded instantly, its shimmering surface glowing faintly as it opened a portal to my personal inventory dimension.
I wasted no time in sliding the rolled-up parchment inside, watching as it disappeared into the depths of the dimensional space. I closed the portal, the magical energies dissipating as the ring returned to its inert state.
The last thing I needed was for Viperax to attempt any underhanded tactics to seize or manipulate the agreement we had just signed. By keeping it within my own possession, I could ensure that it remained safe and secure until it was needed.
The constant thuds and earthshakes started as Viperax and his entourage departed from our camp. Their departure left a palpable tension lingering in the air. Jyne's voice cut through the silence, her question hanging in the air like a lingering doubt. "Do you think he will keep the deal, Your Majesty?" she asked, her tone tinged with uncertainty.
I glanced at her, catching the flicker of concern in her eyes. "He has to," I replied firmly, my gaze shifting back to the now-empty space where Viperax's presence had just been. "Or he will face the consequences."
Jyne's expression softened, but her doubt remained evident. "But the agreement... You forced it," she pointed out, her voice laced with hesitation. "I'm afraid..." Her words trailed off, leaving the unspoken fear hanging between us like a heavy cloud.
I sighed, understanding her apprehension all too well. "Indeed, I forced him," I admitted, a wry smirk playing at the corners of my lips. "But he knows what I can do if he breaks it."
“Does this have anything to do with what happened when you 'kidnapped' him?” Jyne's question cut through the air, her brow furrowed with curiosity. It wasn't the first time she had raised this concern, but it still lingered in the back of her mind.
She knew where I took Viperax with my portal and what my purpose was, I had explained it to Eir, Jyne and Evelina before. But how I opened my portal and sent Viperax’s ultimate skill to his own capital was my spontaneous act. That wasn't in the plan and that was the key to why Viperax didn't have much of a debate with me after we returned to the tent.
