The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow into the room. I found myself gradually waking up from a restful slumber. Slowly, I blinked my eyes open, taking in the familiar sight of my room's ceiling. There was a sense of clarity in my mind that hadn't been there before, a newfound freshness that seemed to wash away the lingering exhaustion from the previous day.
I lay there and couldn't help but reflect on the events of the previous night. Puriel had brought me calmness and tranquility that I hadn't experienced in a long time. It was as if her soothing touch and comforting aura had worked like a healing balm for my weary soul. I wondered if she had used some sort of spell on me during the night. I couldn't help but wonder why she hadn't employed such magic before.
Regardless of the reason, I felt grateful for the respite it had provided. My thoughts were clearer, my mood lighter, and for the first time in a while, I felt truly refreshed.
Sitting cross-legged on my bed, I stretched my arms above my head, feeling the satisfying pull in my muscles. With a yawn, I reached for my phone, the bright screen illuminating the dimness of my room. As I scrolled through my contacts, I pondered what to do with my day, aside from the usual task of hunting down those senators.
I thought about paying a visit to some of my partners – Camila, Olivia, Diamond, Pearl, or Emma. It had been a while since I last saw them. But then a nagging thought crept into my mind, would it be safe to visit them openly as Ethan? After all, I knew the association still had their eyes on me, and I couldn't risk drawing unwanted attention.
But then, a solution presented itself. ‘Why not just use my incubus form?’ It had been ages since I'd roamed the human world in that guise, and perhaps it was time for a little change of pace. Besides, slipping into my incubus form would allow me to move around freely without arousing suspicion. It was the perfect disguise.
My thoughts drifted to the rumors and gossip that must have swirled in my absence. I couldn't help but wonder what people had been saying about the sudden disappearance of the so-called "Prince of Ledred." Undoubtedly, my abrupt vanishing act had sparked a frenzy of speculation and chatter.
I tapped on my phone screen, unlocking it to find a text from Mia waiting for me.
Mia: Ethan, the party is tonight. Can you make it?
I glanced at the time and did a quick mental calculation to figure out the time difference between us. 'Tonight... So that's like dawn for me,' I mused.
With a slight nod to myself, I typed out my response.
Ethan: Okay.
I lingered with my phone in hand, my thumbs dancing over the screen as I composed messages to Emma and the others. I wanted to know if they had some free time to hang out today. Since it was still early in the morning, just a little past 06.02 AM, I figured I'd shoot them a text instead of telepathing them.
Once I hit send on the messages, I settled back into the comfort of my bed, not quite ready to start the day just yet. With a lazy yawn, I decided to distract myself by browsing the web. I opened up a news website, intending to check out the latest updates about Damian. Sure, I should probably be more concerned about news related to the Great Demon or the Demon Hunter Association, but honestly, I was pretty burned out on all that stuff.
‘Who would've thought Ethan would end up stealing the spotlight from Damian?’ I mused inwardly. It was a weird twist of fate, but unfortunately, the attention Ethan was drawing wasn't the same kind of attention Damian used to get from the ladies. Instead, it was something far more dangerous lurking in the shadows. The Demon Hunter Association.
After scrolling through a bunch of mundane news articles, I finally stumbled upon a couple of headlines related to Damian. "Where is Prince of Ledred?" and "Is Lady Ledred kicking out Prince of Ledred?" The titles were like a punchline to some joke only I could appreciate. I couldn't help but chuckle at the irony. It seemed like my disappearance had stirred up some speculation, but honestly, I wasn't surprised.
It was not like I missed the days of being hailed as the prince of Ledred anyway. That title came with too much baggage, too many expectations. People see me as some sort of ‘noble figure’, but in reality, I was just a student trying to make a living by sleeping with some women. I read through the sparse articles. Sure, there were a few curious souls wondering where the prince had vanished to, but overall, it seemed like the public had moved on. And honestly, that suited me just fine.
I scrolled down the phone for at least half an hour, my thumb swiping aimlessly as I delved deeper into the abyss of internet news. It was like diving into a pool of gossip and speculation, hoping to find a glimmer of truth amidst the sea of clickbait headlines and sensationalized stories.
From checking news about me, about Damian to be precise. But I didn't find anything else interesting. What did I expect? The life of a gigolo wasn't exactly breaking news material than a demon lord.
I also checked the news about the great demon. Well, I wasn't really looking for that news though, but those news stories kept popping up and appearing in front of me, so I decided to check one or two news stories that related to me. But yeah again I didn't find anything interesting. Most of them contain a lot of wild speculation and debates about why the great demon fought the huge jelly monster. And of course, they thought that it was just a power struggle.
