Seven Sins System Chapter 360. Be Careful What You Wish For

The day concluded with yet another round of arguments with Puriel. Our disagreement centered around her refusal to provide the tears we had agreed upon as payment. The reason? According to Puriel, I hadn't handled the last mortal woman in a manner that met her standards of propriety. Well, what did she expect from me, the devil himself? A fairytale ending where I give the woman a delightful demon husband and whisk her away to live happily ever after in my realm? The very thought was ludicrous.

The back-and-forth continued for what felt like an eternity, an annoying tug of war between my devilish inclinations and Puriel's lofty ideals. After half an hour of exasperating arguments, she begrudgingly handed over her crystal tears. The disappointment was palpable as I realized she had prepared them in advance, denying me the satisfaction of witnessing her shed a tear.

I had hoped for a spectacular show, a glimpse of vulnerability from the seemingly infallible goddess. Instead, I received a pre-packaged token of remorse, leaving me with a sense of anticlimax. Still, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance at her unwavering commitment to her virtuous façade. It seemed Puriel was determined to maintain an image of pristine perfection, even in our contentious dealings.

Over the next three days, life continued in its usual chaotic blend of nocturnal hunts and daylight duties as a combat doctor. My dual existence, thriving in the shadows as a devil of the night and masquerading as a mortal healer by day, had a rhythm of its own. Amidst this, I found myself responding to the occasional summons from mortals. Some sought wealth, a desire I easily fulfilled with a flick of my Demon Crafting skill, transforming mundane items into glimmering gold.

Others presented me with requests of a more sinful nature, like the one where a man yearned to drive a woman insane with desire. I unleashed my Envy tentacles, weaving illusions and manipulating memories to make the woman obsessively infatuated with the man. Yet, as with many of these deals, complications arose. The woman's husband, sensing something amiss, took drastic measures and ended the man's life, abruptly terminating our agreement.

It was a chaotic twist of fate that left the woman, once ensnared by false desires, suddenly thrust back into reality. The temporary madness induced by my enchantments dissipated, and she returned to her senses, reconciling with her husband. It was a stark reminder that mortal affairs were as fickle as they were unpredictable.

As for me… That guy had promised to be my servant, a deal cut short by his untimely demise before I could even throw a single task his way. Left with a corpse and a broken pact, I figured why let a good meal go to waste? Yep, I decided to devour his lifeless form. As for his soul, well, even if it didn't go to me willingly, it was bound to end up in my realm eventually. I could imagine he was on a corner in the playground of envy rulers' torture, a fitting destination for a soul tangled in wishes and regrets.

I could almost hear 'Envy' chuckling in the man's incorporeal face, relishing the irony of his demise right after securing a wish from me. I could imagine the taunting lines: "You should've summoned me, not that Prince of Wrath." The soul, now tainted and rotten, would endure even more torment at the hands of 'Envy,' regretting the choices made in his final moments. It didn't really matter who he had summoned; the outcome would have been the same – a soul ensnared in the twisted playground of desires and punishments.

I got the last summon from a delusional teenager. The type who watched too many movies, read superhero stories, and thought he was the protagonist in some grand narrative. Classic case of thinking the world's his oyster. The guy was dreaming big, wanting strength to be the hero he envisioned. Too bad for him, he ended up summoning me, the devil. Talk about a plot twist.

Feeling a bit mischievous, I decided to play along with his superhero fantasy. I pulled out my ace – the Blood Curse skill. Gave him the power he so desperately craved, made him feel invincible. But, here was the catch with dealing with devils, asking for power was like dancing with the devil, quite literally. To wield that newfound strength, the user's gotta cough up something in return, a personal sacrifice.

He flexed his newfound strength, probably practicing superhero poses in front of a mirror, little did he know that the universe had a way of balancing the scales. I left him to grapple with the aftermath of his wish, the fine print he had conveniently overlooked in his pursuit of glory. Ah, the things mortals were willing to trade for power. It kept me entertained.

The entire power situation came with a bit of a catch, akin to playing a risky game of magic roulette. It was like a mage chucking away his precious Mana to cast a spell. The twist here was that this kid wasn't exactly a walking Mana reservoir. So, what did the power do? It hunted for the closest alternative, and, guess what? It found a replacement in his life energy.

So, every time he tapped into those newfound powers, it was like sipping on the juice of his own existence. Life energy, the good stuff that kept him ticking, got sucked away with every flashy display of his super strength. He kept at it without a care, and boom, he was on the express train to an early demise. It was like he was running on borrowed time, a ticking clock counting down to the end of his mortal coil.

Now, I wasn't complaining. It was a win-win for me. He got the power trip he craved, and I got a front-row seat to the grand spectacle of human stupidity. A classic case of 'be careful what you wish for,' right? I couldn't help but revel in the irony of it all – mortals chasing their dreams with no clue about the fine print. And when the inevitable happened, I wasn't one to turn down a freshly harvested soul.
