I pursed my lips, initially attempting to feign ignorance of her implication. However, the weight of her gaze proved too much, and after a brief moment, I relented. "Fine, you got me. Yes, the attacks are mostly dominated by weaker demons," I admitted, throwing a dismissive hand gesture into the air. Yet, behind my nonchalant demeanor, a hint of annoyance lingered. Weak demons like Imps may seem inconsequential, but their relentless nature made them a persistent nuisance.
"But here's the catch," I continued, meeting her unwavering gaze. "Some demons are more than just a minor inconvenience. Take the Imps, for example. They're crafty little devils, some are cannibals. And then there are the Hounds, summoning their own kind without breaking a sweat. Annoying, right?" I added with a touch of irritation.
She leaned in, her eyes probing for more insight. "So, humans have had access to my power for a thousand years. Shouldn't they be wiping the floor with these weak demons by now?" she questioned, her gaze still piercing.
I sighed, realizing I needed to clarify. "It's not that simple. Not all humans are capable of harnessing your power effectively. It's a selective process. Demon hunters, for instance, are chosen, trained, and infused with your energy. Others, not so much. So, while there are those wielding angelic might, it doesn't mean every human is on an equal playing field," I explained, attempting to bridge the gap between her celestial expectations and the reality of human limitations.
She gasped, her hand flying to cover her mouth in shock. A step backward followed as if she feared the revelation might somehow stain her celestial purity. "Not all of them are capable of harnessing my power? Oh my Goddess… Are they sinning too much?" she wondered, her wide-eyed astonishment suggesting an innocence untouched by the grim realities of human existence.
"Some humans simply have different priorities," I added, hoping to ease her shock with a touch of reality.
“But they don't know how to fight the demons, right? Then what do humans do in this world? Eat and breed? Aren't they afraid that demons will invade their world again?” She bombarded me with a barrage of questions, her curiosity apparent in every syllable. It was as if she had stumbled upon a cultural enigma that defied her celestial understanding.
I cringed at her inquiry, finding her perplexity oddly endearing. "Well, not everyone is eager for a fight. Some humans are more focused on, you know, the basics – eating, breeding, the whole survival gig," I explained, gesturing with exaggerated simplicity. "And about the invasion fear, it's not exactly at the forefront of every human's mind. They have other concerns, like making a living, finding happiness, or, well, figuring out what to have for dinner," I added, emphasizing the diverse spectrum of human preoccupations. “Well, that's why they took your holy power to make the vaccine,” I continued, attempting to connect the dots and steer the conversation back to the practical implications of her celestial influence on human affairs.
She, however, seemed less concerned with the current scenario than with the historical context. “I know. But a long time ago, humans could fight demons even without the holy power of an angel. If they had a pact with an angel or received a blessing, they should be stronger than just casting Holy Blast," she reminded me, her expression unyielding in its expectation of a more substantial answer.
Once again, I found myself cringing at the complexities of human history and the shifting dynamics that had brought us to the present. “Well, the human world has changed now. There are a lot of things that humans can do, you know, with their brains. They invest more of their time and energy in developing their intelligence,” I explained.
Her gaze remained skeptical, as if grappling with the profound shift in human priorities. "Developing their intelligence," she repeated, as if tasting the words. The concept seemed foreign, perhaps even perplexing, to a being whose existence was steeped in ethereal purity. “They develop their intelligence and completely ignore that they have enemies drooling around for their flesh in the shadows?” she demanded, seeking an explanation that aligned with her celestial understanding of conflict and danger.
I scratched my head, navigating the delicate task of explaining human priorities to her. "Well, they also make automated powerful secret weapons to kill demons if they need them," I added, hoping to showcase a semblance of the intricate measures humans had developed.
Her celestial eyes narrowed, a focused scrutiny on me. “Has this weapon ever been used?” she asked, probing for specifics.
I hesitated briefly, realizing the sensitivity of the information I was about to disclose. "A couple of times. They used it on me,” I admitted, bracing for her reaction.
“Did it hurt you?” she inquired further, her gaze penetrating.
'Uh ow... wrong move, Ethan,' I thought, grumbling internally. Trying to downplay the situation, I offered an awkward grin and responded, “Uh… No. But it's quite strong for the human world."
She let out a long, exasperated breath, her features contorting into a clear display of annoyance. “Yeah, right. After a thousand years, they took my power, and this is all they can do with it. Just let me go quickly; it looks like I have to teach them," she vented in frustration.
“Teach them about?” I inquired, my eyes widening as a sudden realization crossed my mind. “Wait… You're not going to unleash your anger on them, right?” I blurted out, a note of concern tainting my words.
Her gaze shifted from annoyance to a contemplative expression. “Anger? No, that's not my intention,” she clarified, though the intensity of her celestial aura suggested that whatever she had in mind was far from a casual lesson.
“Then what?” I pressed, eager for clarification on her cryptic statement.
“I need to remind them of the power they hold and what they can achieve with it,” she explained, her tone carrying a mix of determination and duty.
