Seven Sins System Chapter 358. Culinary Adventure of The Vampiric Kind

Azrael’s PoV

I slumped my head onto the desk, eyes fixated on the window's panorama of monotony. The room echoed the silent hum of unfulfilled intentions. The brain, my eternal companion in this mortal charade, chanted a mantra that reverberated through the caverns of my skull. "I need to be productive. I need to be productive. I need to be productive." Yet, ironically, I couldn’t do anything.

Lazing around, once a luxury, now morphed into an unsettling guilt. Boredom clawed at the edges of my consciousness, a relentless itch that defied the attempts to soothe it away.

Maybe it was the yearning for the familiar, the desire to return to my mansion, my realm—the place where laws bend to my whims. The mortal charade, an extended vacation fraught with the danger of losing myself to their ephemeral ways, gnawed at the edges of my composure. I knew the longer I lingered here, donning the mortal guise, the more I risked becoming one of them—a fate I shuddered to embrace.

Or perhaps it was the realization that stagnation awaited, threatening to corrode the machinations within my head. The echoes of responsibilities bounced off the walls of my mind, a relentless reminder that time, even in this mortal masquerade, was not my ally.

The prospect of a hunt teased my senses. Yet, the practicalities of daylight dampened the enthusiasm. The mortals could catch a glimpse of my extraterrestrial endeavors, even if I limited myself.

“I wonder when the cult will catch me…” I muttered in a tone that danced between despair and a twisted sense of amusement. The idea of being pursued by a cult had a certain thrill to it, a morbid excitement fueled by the prospect of turning the tables and wreaking havoc on those who sought me.

Contemplating the absurdity of my situation, I toyed with the idea of embracing vulnerability, strolling around like a hapless rabbit willingly heading into a wolf's den. It had its charm—the potential to lure them in so I could unleash my wrath upon them, efficiently combining recreation with mission completion. However, I wasn't about to underestimate the cult's intelligence. What fool would attempt to kidnap a combat doctor entrenched in a battle academy? If they had any semblance of sense, they'd wait for me to leave the premises before executing their harebrained plan. Besides, they were well-acquainted with my work hours, making my impromptu stroll a risky venture.

Annoyance gripped me, and I pressed my face into the cool surface of the desk, contemplating desperate measures. “I should ask Puriel to hang out in the infirmary,” I muttered in a voice that barely rose above a mumble. Desperation had a funny way of blurring the lines between alliances and animosities. The thought of seeking camaraderie with my nemesis bordered on ludicrous, yet the prospect fueled the idea.

The irony wasn't lost on me. Entertaining the notion of befriending Puriel, extracting information about her realm, and potentially using it in the future. But in the bizarre tapestry of my existence, desperate times called for desperate measures. Who knew? Maybe a friendly chat with the goddess of chastity could be the distraction I needed. The very thought brought a wicked grin to my face.

“Dr. Allen,” a voice, soft and distinctly feminine, pierced the air, laced with the subtle creak of a door swinging open. In a practiced reflex, I straightened my posture, conjured up a friendly smile, and pivoted towards the source.

“Yes?” I responded, the word hanging in the air, ready to catch whatever inquiry or request awaited.

And there she was—Penelope. Her unexpected presence sent a ripple through the fabric of my routine. In the ebb and flow of my encounters with Penelope and Katrina, their visits had dwindled, casualties to the tumult of Theo's unfolding predicaments. The sisters appeared to be entangled in their own pursuits, and in the midst of it, I'd grown accustomed to the solitude of my routine, half expecting their visits to be relegated to the archives of memory.

She sauntered over, each click of her heels resonating like a declaration of impending mischief. "I see you're busy," she declared with a generous sprinkle of sarcasm, her words laced with a hint of challenge.

“Yeah. I'm so busy that I've made a cozy little spot for myself right here at my desk," I volleyed back, matching her sarcasm beat for beat.

A mocking smirk danced on her lips as she handed me the schedule. I accepted it, already bracing for the quirks and twists it would inevitably contain. But before I could dive into the sea of appointments and responsibilities, she pulled my strings with her next proposition.

“This weekend, come to our place. We're feeling generous—we'll even cook dinner for you," she teased, a glint of provocation in her eyes. The gauntlet was thrown, and the challenge laid bare.

"Are you preparing my dinner, or am I your dinner?" I questioned, skepticism tainting my tone. The mental image of those twin vampires sinking their fangs into me played out in my mind, a scenario that seemed both improbable and oddly plausible.

Her response, delivered with a smirk that held a mischievous twinkle, added an extra layer of intrigue to the impending dinner proposition. “We'll see about that,” she teased, her words hanging in the air like an unspoken challenge. "Don't worry, Dr. Allen. We promise we won't hurt you. It will be a culinary adventure of the vampiric kind," she assured, the playful glint in her eyes not fully dispelling the ambiguity.

I raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced. "Define 'culinary adventure of the vampiric kind.' Is that a technical term in your menu planning?"

Her laughter rang out, a melodic accompaniment to our banter. “Let's say, we might surprise you with a dish or two that will leave you questioning the boundaries of mortal cuisine."

A smirk tugged at the corners of my lips. "Well, if you manage to outdo my expectations, I might consider making this a regular occurrence," I replied, playing along with the banter.
