The Incubus System Chapter 844. Real Or Not?

The Incubus System Chapter 844. Real Or Not?

I closed the bedroom door behind me and with a snap of my fingers, I summoned my portal. Stepping through it, in an instant, I found myself in the alley nearby to our usual meeting spot.

The distant sounds of traffic and the city's constant hum formed the backdrop to my arrival. Adjusting my stride, I made my way down the alley.

After I entered the coffee shop, the soothing aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloped me as I made my way to the counter to place an order. A quick decision led me to choose my usual – a latte to kickstart the conversation that awaited.

With my order secured, I settled at a vacant table, my mind swirling with the remnants of the perplexing dream that had haunted my sleep. The rhythmic hum of conversation and the occasional clinking of coffee cups provided comforting background noise.

As I waited for Larry, I couldn't help but ponder the implications of the dream. If the colossal eye made another appearance, it would signify the dream was real, but somehow my system couldn't detect it. The uncertainty of it all gnawed at me, creating an underlying tension.

My thoughts then shifted to the colossal eye's cryptic warning of calamity. Puzzled, I tried to reconcile this ominous prediction with my own understanding of my powers. Lord Damon had never hinted at such a possibility. It seemed unfounded, yet the warning lingered.

'Wait... maybe that's because Erebus once used his soul to blow up the border and create the crack,' I thought, the realization hitting me like a sudden revelation. The memory of Erebus's reckless act resurfaced, a vivid image of chaos and destruction etched in my mind.

In the colossal eye's view, perhaps the line between Erebus's malevolence and my existence had blurred. The dark stain of Erebus's actions had inadvertently tainted my identity, making me a potential source of calamity in the eye's discerning gaze.

A wry smile played on my lips as I contemplated the irony of being judged for another demon's sins. Erebus, with his reckless ambitions, had inadvertently cast a shadow on my reputation.

The soft chime from the counter signaled the arrival of my latte. The waiter, a young man with a friendly demeanor, approached my table with a tray cradling the steaming cup. The rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, momentarily distracting me from the lingering thoughts of the colossal eye.

"Latte for Ethan," the waiter announced, breaking from the usual routine of discreetly calling out names. The coffee shop's ambiance allowed for a more personalized touch today, a subtle acknowledgment of the quieter atmosphere brought about by the recent incident.

I offered a nod of gratitude as he carefully placed the latte on the table, the warmth emanating from the porcelain cup embracing my senses. "Thanks," I said, a genuine appreciation in my tone. The waiter, attuned to the unspoken nuances of the day, reciprocated with a small, understanding smile before retreating to attend to other patrons.

The fragrant swirl of freshly brewed coffee enveloped me as I took a leisurely sip of the latte. The velvety warmth of the beverage worked its way through me, momentarily eclipsing the weight of recent events. It was a small indulgence, a brief respite amidst the chaos, and I intended to relish every moment of it.

As the rich flavors danced on my taste buds, I let out a contented sigh, the steam from the cup swirling gently in the air. The cozy ambiance of the coffee shop provided a sanctuary, if only for a while. The chatter of other patrons, the clinking of cups, and the subdued hum of conversation became a soothing backdrop.

My attention wandered to the window beside me, where the bustling street outside painted a picture of ordinary life continuing amidst the extraordinary. And then, a familiar figure came into view.

Larry, with a slightly labored gait and the telltale signs of a recent skirmish evident in his movements, approached the coffee shop. His left leg seemed to bear the brunt of the encounter, a testament to the physical toll that demon-hunting exacted. Despite the evident strain, a beaming smile graced his face, a testament to his resilience.

Waving enthusiastically, Larry made his way inside, his determination overcoming any discomfort. His entrance injected a burst of energy into the coffee shop, the atmosphere shifting with his arrival. Without awaiting my response, he hastened toward my table, his grin undiminished.

Larry's grin widened as he settled into the chair, a noticeable wince accompanying the motion. The marks of his recent skirmish were etched on his features, bruises serving as vivid reminders of the dangers that lurked in the shadows. His upbeat greeting, however, betrayed no hint of distress.

“Yo! Glad to see you safe and sound," he exclaimed, his happiness infectious. Despite the evident discomfort, Larry's resilience shone through.

“That should be my line,” I responded with a huff, my concern for his well-being surfacing. My eyes lingered on the visible signs of his struggle, an unspoken worry etched in my expression. "What happened to you? Have you got into a fight?" I inquired.

It was painful for me since I knew what happened to him yet I couldn't tell him directly. Larry, his cheerful demeanor belying the injuries he bore. He deserved to know the truth, to understand the reality that lurked beneath the surface of our seemingly ordinary lives. Yet, revealing my status as the great demon, a prince of darkness, could unleash unforeseen consequences upon him. The problems that followed me could extend their reach to him, endangering his safety in a world where demons and humans stood at odds.

On the other hand, I was in a dilemma. Telling him my identity could put him in danger. Demons and humans could target him. Unlike my partners or servants where my system could tell me when they were in danger. There was no announcement that could warn me in case he was in danger.
