The Incubus System Chapter 843. Snap!

The Incubus System Chapter 843. Snap!

‘Who am I?’ he echoed my question, his words echoing in the recesses of my mind. A profound silence ensued, lingering like an unsolved puzzle awaiting an answer.

'I don't know, I don't know,' the voice returned again, its repetition imparting an air of uncertainty. It struck me as odd, the almost childlike simplicity in its response. The voice seemed to lack the depth and complexity one might associate with a being possessing advanced intelligence. This inexplicable manner of speaking left me perplexed, different from any interaction I'd ever experienced, especially with other demons.

It was curious, and not in a good way. As a demon lord, my encounters typically involved entities with a higher level of intellect, even among the most obscure and mystical beings. This anomaly, shrouded in the essence of confusion and uncertainty, piqued my interest and set my instincts on alert.

‘What makes you think I will bring calamity?’ I inquired, aiming to understand the source of this ominous warning and to unveil any potential motive behind the foreboding messages.

But once again, the response was met with an unsettling silence, leaving a void of explanation.

The voice resonated once more in my mind, cryptic and laden with foreboding. ‘Three worlds cannot be one…’ It muttered, almost as though reciting a dire prophecy. 'But you have the blood of the three worlds. You will bring calamity…' it warned, the words echoing with an unsettling certainty.

The mention of the three worlds and the prophecy-like quality in his words pricked my curiosity. I had to know more. ‘Who are you? Are you the border guardian?’ I ventured, attempting to uncover the identity behind the eerie voice. The notion that this voice might belong to the enigmatic guardian intrigued me, but the answers I sought remained elusive.

‘How did you know I would bring calamity?’ I persisted, driven by a mixture of intrigue and concern about the dire prophecy cast upon me.

His response was chilling. ‘I know. I know. Cause I'm in this place. Cause I'm watching you!’ The words reverberated with an eerie finality, punctuated with an unsettling revelation. As the final syllables left his unseen lips, a vivid image materialized in my mind, searing its way into my consciousness like a haunting vision.

Suddenly, the colossal eye loomed before me, a massive orb fixated on me with an intensity that felt unnervingly real. Its gaze felt piercing and intense, causing an involuntary gasp to escape my lips, a jolt that shook me from my stupor.

The transition from the dreamlike state to the vividness of the colossal eye felt jarring, leaving me disoriented. The impact of the vision lingered, leaving behind a sense of unease and a flurry of unanswered questions about the cryptic voice and the warning it had imparted upon me.

Startled, I snapped my eyes open, a sharp gasp escaping my lips. My heart hammered within my chest, racing furiously as I struggled to shake off the remnants of the haunting dream. Beads of sweat dotted my forehead and trickled down my temples.

Glancing toward the nearby clock, it showed 05:21 PM. The realization that only minutes had passed since I dozed off into the dreamy realm amplified the disconcerting nature of the experience.

“Snap…” I muttered, feeling the bed underneath as I sank down, trying to regain some composure. My heart was still thumping like a bass drum at a rock concert. It was like my brain couldn't catch up with reality yet. The dream felt so vivid, so real. Was it a premonition or just my subconscious playing tricks on me?

'It should be a dream,' I mumbled internally, trying to rationalize what just occurred. The absence of any system announcement, something like entering or leaving Puriel's dream spell indicated that this might have been an intricate fabrication of my mind. But then again, there was this lingering unease that didn’t quite fit with the usual dreams I had. It felt too significant, too real to brush off entirely. So I would handle this as a real warning.

‘Maybe because Erebus has kicked his ass before?’ I mused, attempting to piece together the puzzle the voice had presented. Or maybe it was something to do with my unique ability to move between the three worlds, a trait that Puriel had mentioned? But what sort of calamity could I possibly bring? Would I transform into some colossal monster out of the blue? It felt absurd even as the idea flitted across my mind.

Sitting there in my room, the haunting dream lingered in the recesses of my thoughts. I felt a mix of curiosity and apprehension, a sense that something significant was lurking, waiting to be unraveled.

I sat up on the bed, glancing around my room, my eyes scrutinizing every corner. There was a slight unease, a lingering sense that maybe, just maybe, that colossal eye could still be watching. I scanned the room, looking for any sign of an anomaly or a rift, anything that might validate the eerie experience I'd just had. The curtains billowed gently in the soft breeze that seeped in through the window. The room seemed as normal as it could be.

I raked my gaze over the walls, the ceiling, even checking under the bed, half-expecting to find an otherworldly crack or some obscure rift. But there was nothing, just the familiar and mundane surroundings of my room.

Restlessness pricked at my mind. If that colossal eye had been more than a dream, if it truly had a way to observe me, that would certainly be unsettling. I fervently hoped that it wasn't the case. The thought of some unknown entity peering into my private moments wasn’t a welcome one.

With the lingering remnants of the disconcerting dream still playing on my mind, I decided that a trip to the coffee shop to meet Larry might help shake off the eerie feeling. Inhaling deeply, I pushed aside the lingering unease and made up my mind to get going.

I hopped out of bed, feeling a bit more energized and determined to face the day. Without any further ado, I snapped my fingers, invoking my Demon's Clothes skill to conjure a fresh set of attire. In a matter of moments, I was dressed in a comfortable outfit.

My wallet and phone were next on my checklist. I grabbed them, making sure I had everything I needed for my meeting.

As I made my way to the bedroom door, I called out to Celia. "Celia, I'm heading out to see Larry for a bit," I informed her.

"Okay," her response came.
