Lord Damon's face scrunched up in a scowl, his frown deepening as he shot Azrael a skeptical look. "What kind of bullshit is that?" he demanded, his tone tinged with a touch of annoyance. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his reaction. It seemed like my father was unimpressed with the vagueness of Azrael's revelation. Or perhaps he was playing a role in this charade, a master of keeping his cards close to his chest.
Azrael, however, didn't take kindly to the disbelief in Lord Damon's tone. He shot back with a hint of irritation, "Hey! That's why I said I'm not sure about it. Living for thousands of years doesn't mean I know everything, you know." His retort was laced with a hint of exasperation.
I let out a long exhale. My gaze flickered towards Lord Damon, and I couldn't help but shoot him a telepathic message. 'Okay, spill the beans. What's that? You know something, right?' I prodded him, grateful that I hadn't spilled all the beans, particularly about the colossal eye, in front of our company. There was no doubt that my father was keeping some crucial information close to his chest.
'We'll talk about this later. But whatever you want to say, don't say it in front of him. There are some things that only a royal can keep,' he conveyed, his expression remaining unreadable.
'Okay,' I answered. I never thought he already knew I wanted to tell him something important.
As we fell into a contemplative silence, Azrael couldn't help but notice our exchanged glances and the palpable air of secrecy that enveloped us. He turned his inquisitive gaze towards us, his eyes darting back and forth between Lord Damon and me. "Why are you guys suddenly quiet?" he questioned, his brow furrowing in suspicion. "Are you guys having an internal conversation without me?" He made a bold guess, suspecting that something was afoot.
Lord Damon responded with a wry smile. "We are using our brains and thinking about what it is," he replied, his tone curt and vague.
Azrael's narrowed gaze suggested his persistence in getting to the bottom of this situation. "So you don't know what it is?" he queried, his skepticism evident in his tone.
With a sigh, I shook my head, my expression mirroring my genuine curiosity. "Unfortunately not," I responded, my voice tinged with honesty. "I also want to know what it is." The desire to ensure that whatever this energy disturbance was wouldn't become a future threat or problem hung heavy in my words. That part, at least, was the truth. I genuinely had no clue what this was all about.
Azrael's initial huff of frustration was followed by a sudden realization, prompting another question. "Right. What about you, Damian?" he inquired, his tone softening slightly. "Did something happen? I noticed you looked rather hurried when you arrived." His eyes bore into me, searching for any signs or hints that might shed light on what I had experienced. His curiosity was insatiable, and it was clear that he wanted to uncover all of this as much as he could.
I let out an exasperated sigh, frustration creeping into my voice as I tried to explain my reason for wanting to talk to my father. "I just want to discuss about Zatan and Beel with my Dad," I muttered, my words accompanied by an annoyed huff. "They are as slick as an eel, really annoying." Dealing with the notorious duo had become a major thorn in my side, and I was desperate to find a way to handle their schemes.
Azrael couldn't help but cringe at the mere mention of the troublemakers. "Ah, them," he responded, his voice colored with distaste. "I forgot you also have to deal with them." He glanced at my father once more, curiosity gleaming in his eyes. "What is your plan?" Azrael probed, eager to hear what strategy Lord Damon had in mind.
Lord Damon's answer was swift and laced with determination. "Catch them, of course," he replied, his tone matter-of-fact. "They were already planning to overthrow me and trying to kill my son. What else is there to ask?" He spoke as if it were the most logical course of action, as though there were no other possible outcome.
Azrael, on the other hand, wasn't about to let the conversation veer off course. He shot Lord Damon a flat, annoyed stare, his impatience clear. "I mean about the strange power I detected," he emphasized, returning the discussion to the mysterious energy disturbance that had brought him here.
"I will do an investigation about it," Lord Damon declared, his tone laced with authority. The conversation took an unexpected turn as Lord Damon proposed an investigation into the mysterious energy disturbance that had roused our curiosity. "But since it's near your territory, I hope you don't mind that." His words were deliberate, a polite acknowledgment of Azrael's proximity to the incident. The demon lords' territories weren't always clearly defined, and their boundaries often blurred, so it was important to tread carefully.
He continued, outlining his proposal for collaboration. "You can also do the same investigation, or maybe we better work together on this," Lord Damon suggested, his voice reflecting a sense of cooperation. "It’s better than our subordinates competing with each other, right?" His words held a persuasive tone, emphasizing the value of a united effort to uncover the truth.
Azrael offered a nonchalant shrug, displaying a degree of pragmatism. "You have a point there," he admitted, his agreement evident. "Okay, I'll give you the details and send some people to carry out a joint investigation," he confirmed as he rose from his chair, signaling his willingness to cooperate.
I couldn't help but be taken aback by the surprising turn of events. The exchange had gone far more smoothly than I had anticipated, and Azrael had seemingly agreed to Lord Damon's terms without hesitation. I found myself questioning whether there was more to this than met the eye.
However, my growing sense of optimism was soon shattered by what unfolded next.
