Breaking the silence, I leaned forward and couldn't help but voice my curiosity, my gaze locked on Azrael as I sought further clarification. "Mind explaining further?" I inquired, my voice tinged with eagerness. My curiosity was palpable, but so was my seriousness.
The very fact that Azrael and Lord Damon were discussing this with such gravity made it clear that this was no trifling matter. It was that subtle hint that had stirred my curiosity, like there was more to this than met the eye.
But as Azrael began to explain, his words left me with a sense of bewilderment. He shook his head from side to side, signaling the limits of his knowledge. "I can't give more information. That's all I know," he admitted, his expression a mix of frustration and perplexity. "I just felt a huge, strange power. Something I've never felt before. It felt very faint, like a distant echo."
He continued, his voice laced with frustration. "At first, I thought it might be a sign of another demon lord's birth, so I decided to investigate. But when I traced it to the source, there was nothing there. It was in the middle of nowhere, Damian."
Azrael's narrative only deepened the enigma. "Strangely," he added, "I felt a presence there, but then it faded, and just disappeared into thin air. I've never encountered anything like it before." Azrael's territory was indeed far from the capital and he didn't have a portal. But he had one of the best speeds among the demon lords so he could arrive here in no time in a few hours.
"Hmm…" I couldn't help but emit a thoughtful hum, the gears of my mind whirring into action as I contemplated the gravity of Azrael's revelation. My eyes darted around the room, searching for clues that might connect the dots between this peculiar incident and the recent attacks on the human world. There was an undeniable sense of urgency in the air, and I felt that this couldn't be a mere coincidence.
‘This is strange, the attack on the human world just happened,’ I mused, my voice hardly more than a whisper. ‘He should be just feeling it, but why did he feel it a few hours ago?’ I couldn't help but question it in my mind, my thoughts racing to piece together the timeline.
But as I delved deeper into the mysteries at hand, doubts began to creep into my thoughts. ‘Is the energy because of something else?’ I pondered internally, my eyes narrowing in concentration. ‘Or is he…’ My thoughts trailed off, a bold accusation flashing through my mind like a bolt of lightning. It couldn't be, could it? The possibility that Azrael might be involved, intentionally or otherwise, in the problems plaguing both the demon world and the human realm.
I clenched my jaw, knowing that jumping to conclusions without any evidence was reckless. It was just a suspicion that had emerged for no apparent reason. But I was trapped in a whirlwind of thoughts, grasping at straws to make sense of this perplexing situation. It seemed like every time I attempted to draw a logical conclusion, new questions arose.
My mind was a whirlwind of questions and suspicions, and I couldn't help but entertain another guess. "Is the energy demonic power? Something similar to Zatan and Beel's?" I inquired, leaning in closer, eager to hear Azrael's response. We were still on the hunt for Zatan and Beel, and the demon world at large was aware of their mysterious disappearance. However, we hadn't divulged the reasons behind our search, only urging anyone with information to come forward. It was a subtle way of signaling that these demon lords had committed a grave transgression.
Once again, Azrael shook his head, his expression reflecting a mixture of bewilderment and uncertainty. "The power…" he began, his voice trailing off as he sought the right words to describe the enigmatic force he'd encountered. "It isn't quite like a typical demon lord's power. Wait…" He fell into a brief silence, deep in thought as he tried to find a comparison. His furrowed eyebrows indicated his disbelief at what he was about to say.
"It was kind of similar to a demon lord's," he continued, his tone fraught with confusion, "but not quite. It's like it belongs to a demon lord, yet it doesn't feel like it belongs to our kin. It's somewhere in between, like a hybrid of a demon lord's power and that of some other creature. But, Damian, I really don't know what it is." Azrael's perplexity was unmistakable, and he let out a long exhale as he finished explaining.
Azrael's assertion was unequivocal, and his voice held a note of certainty. "For sure, that it is not angelic power," he stated firmly, dispelling one of the few possibilities that I had considered. With angelic power out of the equation, the puzzle of this enigmatic energy only grew more complex.
Lord Damon's face contorted with seriousness, his brows furrowing as he pressed for more information. "Okay, what creature do you mean?" he inquired, his tone as grave as the situation itself. We were delving into uncharted territory, and the stakes were higher than ever.
Azrael pondered the question, his eyes drifting toward the floor as he delved deep into his own thoughts. "Hmm…" he mused, the uncertainty in his voice palpable. He had to sift through his impressions and the faint memories this energy had triggered. "I'm not sure about that. It's not human either." His gaze was distant, as if trying to grasp a fleeting memory. "But I feel nostalgia from it. It's like belonging to this demon world. Like… the core maybe?"
In that fraction of a moment, I noticed a subtle change in Lord Damon's expression, a flicker of realization that crossed his face. It was fleeting, easily missed, but it didn't escape my keen observation. He knew something, and that small revelation had set off alarm bells in my mind.
Yet, like the skilled diplomat he was, Lord Damon quickly masked his reaction, veiling his true thoughts behind a practiced façade.
