Dragon King's Harem Chapter 307. Impolite III

Evelyn and Evelina's eyes practically popped out of their heads when they laid eyes on the shimmering green crystal I held in my hand. It was a rarity, a gem that Sela had personally crafted for me. Normally, these mystical stones were all about freezing moments in time with their enchanted snapshots. But this? It was in a league of its own, a crystal that could actually record.

Evelyn, her jaw hanging somewhere near the floor, broke the silence, "Do crystals like that even exist?" Her eyes were locked onto the radiant jewel in my grasp, like it was a ticket to a realm of pure wonder.

Evelina chimed in, leaning closer for a better look. "We've got a genius in our midst when it comes to crafting these things," she explained with a smile.

I shot another glance at Evelyn, double-checking if she was on board. "So, do you agree?" I asked her once more, just to be sure.

Evelyn paused, lost in thought for a moment. She finally broke her silence with a subtle nod, her eyes showing a mix of curiosity and trepidation. "Okay," she conceded, giving in to the intrigue that sparkled in the depths of her gaze.

Evelina, taking Evelyn's agreement as her cue, nodded slightly and excused herself, slipping away with a knowing look. Without wasting a heartbeat, I triggered the green gem. It levitated right between us, casting a soft, ethereal glow over our expectant faces.

[You have activated the Recording Crystal!]

My eyes shifted back to Evelyn, ready to dive into the heart of the matter. "What do you want to talk about?" I asked, my tone no-nonsense, ready to cut through the small talk and get to the point.

Evelyn hesitated, her gaze flickering towards the mesmerizing crystal for a moment before settling on me.

I reiterated, "You've got ten minutes, that's all you've got," my voice firm. The time constraint was often the magic trick to get folks to spill the beans without overthinking it.

Evelyn took a deep breath, her words stumbling out with a mix of awe and shyness. "I, uh, I just wanted to say that it's a real honor to meet you, Your Majesty. Ever since my sister first told me about you, I've been dreaming of this moment," she confessed, her voice wavering as she struggled to put her feelings into words.

I couldn't help but feel a little puzzled by Evelyn's words. "I'm glad to hear that," I replied, my response somewhat flat. It was almost a reflex at this point. When someone insisted on a private audience just to tell me they admired me, it usually meant there was more to the story.

Evelyn continued, her voice now steadier, "And… I want to say that I've always idolized you. I've devoured every news snippet and book about you. Everything you've done has been nothing short of extraordinary."

I nodded, but her praise was ringing a strange note in my ears. I couldn't help but wonder if there was something more to this. She sounded too sincere for it to be mere fangirling. It was as if she was setting the stage for something bigger.

Evelyn hesitated again, doubt tingling her tone and etching lines of uncertainty on her face. "I… I…" Her voice trailed off once more. It was like she was on the verge of revealing some deep, dark secret, and it was clear she was grappling with the words.

The suspense was getting to me now. I leaned in a bit, my curiosity piqued. "Evelyn, you can tell me anything," I urged, my voice softened with genuine concern. "What is it that you want to say?"

But she remained silent, her lips tightly pressed together, and her eyes locked onto mine, brimming with a seriousness that tugged at my curiosity. Whatever this was, it clearly weighed heavily on her mind.

Finally, the words broke free, and they weren't what I expected. "I want to say that I'm genuinely happy right now, and I hope your marriage with my sister goes well," she declared with a surprising, heartfelt sincerity.

Evelyn's behavior had me scratching my head. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. It was like she was playing this intricate game of charades, her gestures and words hinting at something deeper, something almost akin to a love confession. But then, her actual words took an entirely different path. It was enough to make my head spin, and not in a good way.

But I couldn't jump to wild conclusions. I'd never met her before, and I had no intention of risking my reputation by making assumptions. If she had any romantic feelings or any concerns, it was her place to bring them out into the open. I was more than willing to listen, but I couldn't start reading between the lines when there were so few lines to work with.

So, I settled for a simple, "Thank you," which seemed like the safest response in this confusing moment.

Evelyn's gaze fell, her face a portrait of perplexity. I could see she was wrestling with something, something that was a lot bigger than whatever had just transpired between us.

In a bid to put her at ease, I decided to lay down some cards of my own. "Rest assured," I began, "I won't share the recording with anyone, unless there's a grave misunderstanding or some scandal that poses a threat to both our positions." I hoped this assurance would clear any lingering doubts.

Evelyn's eyes brightened briefly at my words, and I could see a spark of hope dancing within them. It seemed like our understanding was settling in, and I was relieved to see her reaction. But that hope was fleeting, and it was as if a cloud had moved over the sun. Her expression fell, and she voiced a request that left me a little baffled.

"I just hope you will give me a memento to commemorate our meeting. Would you mind, Your Majesty?" She asked, her tone filled with a mix of hope and uncertainty.
