The Incubus System Chapter 795. New Standard

The Incubus System Chapter 795. New Standard

The digital clock on the wall displayed 09:34 PM, the late hour signaling the winding down of the day's events. After safely escorting Miranda back to her place, I summoned my portal once again, ready to return to my own home.

Stepping through the portal and into my living room, I instinctively scanned the area, my eyes seeking familiar figures. However, the room seemed oddly empty, save for Celia and Foxy, who were lounging in front of the television.

I moved closer, my eyebrows furrowing as I addressed them. "Is Mrs. Clea taking Jill to the doctor?" I inquired, my concern evident in my tone. I needed to know what had transpired in my absence.

Both Foxy and Celia turned their attention towards me, their expressions shifting from idle TV-watching to a focus on my question. Foxy was the first to respond. "Yeah, a car came and they took them," she confirmed, her voice carrying a note of assurance.

"Good. She needs proper care," I murmured, mostly to myself. At least they were getting the medical attention they needed. "And Alan?" I prompted, wondering where he fit into the equation.

Celia chimed in, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. "Oh, he tagged along, of course. He seemed pretty excited," she replied, her lips quirking into a playful grin.

I helped myself to a drink from the table and then settled onto the sofa, situating myself comfortably near Celia and Foxy. The TV was still playing in the background, a low murmur of voices and soft sounds. My gaze wandered for a moment before landing on the screen, where a familiar scene was unfolding.

"He seemed interested in Jill," I commented casually.

Celia nodded in agreement, her attention briefly shifting from the TV to me. "Yeah, he's always been good with kids. He has a way of making them feel safe," she replied, a fond smile on her lips.

Curiosity piqued, Foxy turned to me with a thoughtful look. "So, how was your night hunt, Master?" she inquired, her tone casual but filled with genuine interest.

Rave, perched nearby, took the opportunity to chime in. "Not much luck today, to be honest. Prey was scarce," he admitted, a hint of mild disappointment in his voice.

Shadow seemed to echo the sentiment as he stretched and let out a lazy yawn. "Yeah, pretty uneventful," he added, clearly unbothered by the lack of action.

I took another sip of my drink, allowing a brief pause before I answered Celia's question. "Well, I was more focused on Miranda's training tonight," I shared, my gaze drifting toward Foxy. "Or I should say, Red was focused on Miranda's training," I corrected with a wry smile, acknowledging that my active participation in the training had been minimal.

Celia chuckled, a playful glint in her eyes. "You're more of a supervisor, huh?" she teased.

I raised an eyebrow in mock protest. "Hey, someone's gotta oversee the process," I defended with a grin, fully aware of my role in the training dynamics.

Celia's gaze turned towards me, her expression a mix of amusement and mock disapproval. "So, you were just casually strolling around while he was working hard," she remarked, her tone carrying a hint of playful judgment.

I couldn't help but flash her an innocent grin, a clear admission that she had hit the mark with her assessment. It wasn't exactly something I could deny.

She shook her head with an amused smile, her eyes dancing with mirth. "Brother, you're something else," she said, a playful sigh in her voice.

I leaned back on the sofa, feigning a pout. "Hey, I'm like the ultimate boss in a video game now. Shouldn't I be entitled to a leisurely stroll every now and then?" I retorted with a mischievous twinkle in my eyes.

Celia couldn't suppress a chuckle at my response, her lips quirking into a lopsided smile. "Ultimate boss, huh? I don't think bosses normally stroll around," she pointed out, her tone light.

I lifted a shoulder in a casual shrug, a sly grin playing on my lips. "Well, I'm setting new standards, you know? Being unpredictable is the key to success," I declared, leaning into the playful banter.

Celia shook her head again, a mix of exasperation and amusement in her expression. "Brother, no one self-claims to be the last boss," she stated, her tone carrying a hint of laughter.

I merely raised an eyebrow, a challenge in my gaze. "I just did," I countered, my smirk growing more pronounced.

Our playful exchange was interrupted by the blaring sound of the TV, signaling the end of the show.

Celia rolled her eyes with a chuckle. "Alright, fine. You're the last boss. Happy now?" she conceded, a playful glint in her eyes.

I leaned back with a satisfied grin, satisfied that I had managed to get a rise out of her. "Ecstatic," I replied with mock enthusiasm.

Foxy, who had been observing our banter, chimed in with a chuckle. "Well, whether he's the last boss or not, he's our boss," she said, her eyes dancing with warmth.

I shot her a grateful smile, appreciating her lighthearted perspective. "See? Foxy gets it," I chimed in, playfully sticking my tongue out at Celia.

Celia shook her head, a soft laugh escaping her lips. "You're incorrigible," she muttered, but there was affection in her tone.

"Anyway, do you want to hunt the senators again tonight, Master?" Foxy's voice broke the relaxed atmosphere.

I glanced at her, a small grin tugging at my lips. "Yeah, I just needed a quick breather," I replied, raising my drink to my lips and taking a sip. It was a rare moment of downtime, and I was savoring every second of it.

But before I could settle back into the comfort of the sofa, Mrs. Clea's urgent voice echoed in my mind, jolting me out of my momentary relaxation. 'Ethan, I need your help! Come to White Wings Children's Clinic, now!' Her message was urgent, her tone unyielding.
