The Incubus System Chapter 738. Larry's Dilemma

The Incubus System Chapter 738. Larry's Dilemma

Larry's PoV

Once Ethan left, Larry flopped onto his bed, a mix of exhaustion and worry weighing heavily on his mind. Rather than engaging in his usual gaming session to escape reality, he found himself fixated on the monotonous expanse of his bedroom ceiling. It seemed to mock him, its blankness reflecting his own confusion.

The encounter with Ethan had left Larry feeling disconcerted. His friend's lack of acknowledgment regarding his injuries gnawed at him, intensifying his doubts and fears. As he lay there, the room grew dimmer, casting long shadows that mirrored the darkness lurking within him.

"He didn't say a word about my injuries," Larry whispered, the words barely escaping his lips. The realization sent a shiver down his spine. A dull ache settled in his chest, a blend of sadness and frustration intertwining. "Does that mean my suspicions were right? Is Ethan truly the great demon?"

Larry's suspicions began to take root the day before when he had returned from Ethan's house. It was then that he realized something peculiar: Ethan hadn't uttered a single word about his injuries. The wounds that had plagued him and made him black and blue had been magically healed, thanks to one of the great demon's mysterious subordinates. Even Mrs. Clea had been taken aback upon discovering Larry's miraculous recovery. She couldn't fathom why the great demon would go to such lengths to heal him.

The perplexing absence of Ethan's concern fueled Larry's growing unease. It was as if his friend had developed a sudden case of selective obliviousness. Determined to draw Ethan's attention, Larry made several attempts to provoke a reaction, even going as far as mentioning Ruby. But Ethan remained stoically silent, showing no sign of recognition or remembrance.

Larry couldn't help but feel an increasing sense of frustration and confusion. How could Ethan not inquire about his injuries? How could he overlook the fact that they had vanished without a trace? The questions gnawed at Larry's mind like an insatiable beast, relentlessly tearing at his peace of mind.

Larry couldn't contain his despondent mutterings any longer. "If you're truly the great demon, why don't you just come out and say it?" His voice, laced with a mixture of sadness and disappointment, reverberated softly in the room. It was as if he hoped the walls themselves would provide some answers, but they remained silent witnesses to his inner turmoil.

Suddenly, like the missing piece of a puzzle sliding into place, a realization struck Larry with profound clarity. It all began to make sense. Of course! That was the reason Ethan knew his identity as a demon hunter without Larry ever uttering a word about it.

Larry's mind buzzed with thoughts, each connecting like a web of intertwined clues. It became increasingly evident to him that the Ethan he once knew had experienced a transformation, morphing into something otherworldly, something inextricably linked to the realm of demons. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place, revealing a disturbing truth: Ethan had become a demon himself.

The weight of this revelation pressed upon Larry's shoulders, threatening to crush his spirit. It was an alarming twist in their friendship. He couldn't help but wonder what had befallen Ethan, what sinister forces had conspired to twist him into this new form. Was it a result of a dark spell gone wrong? Or perhaps some malevolent entity had seized the opportunity to possess Ethan's vulnerable soul and turned him into one of them? Was that the reason why he helped humans?

But despite the pain and confusion that enveloped him, Larry remained steadfast in his conviction that the Ethan he knew was the true Ethan, not the demonic façade.

Larry's heart sank as he muttered, "Right... of course." The realization hit him hard, cementing the fact that he and Ethan were now on opposing sides, even if it was a truth he desperately wished to deny. It was an unwelcome division, threatening to sever the bond they once shared as friends.

Feeling the weight of the situation bearing down on him, Larry turned around and cast his gaze upon 'Nana-chan,' his beloved anime girl body pillow. However, to his astonishment, what he saw was not the usual cute and innocent character adorning the pillowcase. Instead, his eyes beheld the unmistakable sight of a demon hunter uniform emblazoned inside the fabric.

"What should I do... Can we be friends even under these circumstances?" he muttered.

His heart ached with conflicting emotions. On one hand, there was an overwhelming urge to confront Ethan, to demand answers and restore the bond that had once defined their friendship. But on the other hand, fear whispered in his ear, reminding him of the dangers that lurked within the darkness if he tried to expose Ethan’s secret identity.

A new wave of anxiety crashed over him as he considered the implications of his discovery on the demon hunter organization. The mere thought of their reaction sent a shiver down his spine. They were not known for their leniency or understanding when it came to dealing with those who strayed from their path. If they were to learn of Ethan's transformation, there was no doubt in Larry's mind that they would stop at nothing to apprehend him.

Taking a deep breath, Larry tried to steady his racing thoughts. "For the time being, I should keep this to myself," he muttered, his voice laced with both resignation and determination. He knew it was not a long-term solution, but it bought him time, time to gather information, plan his next move, and how he should react to this.

Still, his mind swirled with questions, each demanding an answer. When would be the right time to confront Ethan? How could he ensure his friend's safety in the face of a relentless demon hunter organization? Larry knew that he couldn't remain silent forever, that the truth had to be revealed eventually. But he also knew that timing was crucial, that he had to choose his moment wisely.

But for sure… When the time had come, he knew which side he had to side with.
