sadness - spotlight
Added 2021-10-20 19:16:24 +0000 UTCwith this song being finished the entire "april sunset" album is concluded. I'm sending it off to spotify/apple music/ all streaming services and it should arrive as normal in 2 weeks, and once it reaches those platforms I'll release it on bandcamp. the imagery for "spotlight" came to me in january of 2018, when on january 15th I posted the lyrics on facebook as one of my little thought diaries. I imagined a moment, ike a memory and a scenario, colored by this april essence. the memory and the moment could really be a multitude of different events, but bathed in the spotlight of distant lights refracting in the floating rain around me. the kind of rain that isn't freefalling and heavy, but light and gentle and sparce, that lightly touches your skin but doesn't actually soak you. I imagined this on a dreamlight april night, pitch black sky and bright lights suspending from tall posts, like spotights. and these lights being white and incredibly vibrant. there's somthething inecxplicable about this moment. something about the spotlights illuminating the night. cool april weather, but blanketed in the warmth of a perfect moment. this moment could include any story or memory or event , and I can't even describe the moment I imagined. there are these moments that feel like an inexistent storyline where I can only define the pure emotional aspect, the nostalgic aspect and the sentimental impact, the way it carves into memories for many many years after. this is also how "I want to be there" was inspired (and if you notice the lyrics for Spotlight were written at the same time I was mkaing I want to be there, early 2018). the music wouldn't end up being composed until april of this year. I feel like I always knew I wanted to take those lyrics I wrote and build a song out of it, because the emotion is so obvious and magical to me. the musical side of spotlight is 100% fresh, as in I didn't recycle an unused sounds or compositions from the past like on other songs. this time i had the intention to capture a certain essense, so I tried to make the song sound the way the imagery and the lyrics should sound. for years I always knew that this april spotlight moment essence had the tonality of Ab minor, and the textures at the beginning and end of the song are trying to put the "spotlight" and rainy april night dreamlike memory into sound. I genuinely feel like every inch of this soundscape does a really, really good job of capturing how this whoe idea sounded in my head. when I listen to this song I can feel the storytelling in the melodies and the sounds describing a perfect romantic moment.

I'm in the spotlights in the rain... it's teal around me, like our night alone in april
