Marvel: The Rise of Paragon – Prologue

Prologue

(Here we go! The start of the Side-Project I'm writing in my free time, for fun and practice)

In a small, retro-futuristic looking room sat a balding, middle-aged man, wearing a nice white dress shirt, a dark green vest, and a set of dress pants and shoes. This man was currently sitting at a large desk, across from a large screen with an image of a flat line floating across it.

"Another day, another dollar." Walter Green rubbed his eyes as he stared at the monitor, trying to fight off some early-morning sleepiness.

Walter liked working here at the Time Variance Authority.

Sure, his job might not be as exciting as the Minutemen or Hunters who helped keep the Sacred Timeline safe, nor as flashy as the Judges and Generals on the Judges' Council who made all the tough decisions…

But working as an Analyst, tracking a Chrono Monitor specialized in detecting extra-dimensional interference…

Well, it wasn’t much, but it was honest work.

It was a regular day, just like every other day in the countless years he had worked this job. Track the monitor, mark down any changes, and pass along the results. His particular Chrono Monitor was one of many extra-dimensional interference monitors, each assigned to various different Analysts.

It was a slow job, truthfully – extra-dimensional interference didn’t really happen all that often, at least not in his sector, and praise the Time Keepers for that. He liked his easy, slow life, here in a forgotten subdepartment, working on his own.

And it just so happened, as Walter yawned and shut his eyes, that something unexpected occurred.

A faint blip appeared on the Chrono Monitor. That blip shot about erratically before overlaying with an image of glitched pixels, creating a small, glitchy branch off the Sacred Timeline.

Walter finished his yawn and glanced down…

“Yep. Same ol’, same ol’.” He marked down, staring at the perfectly straight timeline with a smile.

No hint of any glitches or stray branches could be seen – just the simple, perfect Sacred Timeline he knew and loved.

It was just another normal day, here at the TVA.
