Ask Me Anything
Added 2024-10-07 22:13:00 +0000 UTCGreetings Mythicists! I hope your October is going well, and your NPCs have interesting back stories :)
I recently pondered in the Progress Journal about maybe doing an AMA during the podcast instead of the next Scene of Deadworld Dome. I decided the best course of action is to ... do both!
I think it would be cool to start each podcast off with answering a question. This way I can bring a little news and other bits to the podcast to vary it up, without disrupting the main event.
If you have a question you'd like answered, please write it below.
I'm going to save questions as I get them, and then when it's time to answer I'll pull a question from the pile randomly. It'll be like a big Questions Focus Table!
I think from here on out, when I post each podcast episode, I'll ask for AMA questions at that time so you can write questions under the podcast.
Ask whatever you like, including making suggestions like, "Have you ever considered doing suchandsuch ..." Some of these questions will likely lead to discussions, which will lead to other things in Mythic's future, and I love it when the system takes on the community consciousness like that :)
Happy questioning and adventuring! :)

That'd be so cool for GMs! Imagine running it in-between campaign breaks or during a week that you don't get to play D&D. The world around gets to be dynamic.

2024-10-13 00:08:26 +0000 UTCThank you, great questions and comments :) Writing adventures long form can be very satisfying, so I'm glad that portion of the interview struck a chord with you.

2024-10-11 21:15:08 +0000 UTC+1 for this question. I find this a weakness for me as well. I often use the Action Meaning table to figure out what the purpose of the object is and use descriptors for more appearance detail. But I keep thinking there might be a more satisfying way.

2024-10-11 10:14:32 +0000 UTCI just listened to your interview on the Solo RolePlayers Podcast. I loved it (and subscribed to the show). In particular I found that the revelation that your current method of play is to write a long form story as you play resonated with me. I was reminded that my most successful and enjoyable solo experiences have been where I script the dialogue between the GM and Player. As I write this it strikes me how weird it is. Have you tried this method before? Do you have any ‘experimental’ methods of play you’d like to share? You said that the chaos factor came about as a simple way to emulate the GM giving or taking tension. If you didn’t have to simplify it, what would the chaos factor look like? You mentioned that you created the mythic lists to help reduce the mental overhead you experienced while playing. What other efforts do you take to reduce the paraphernalia, cross-referencing, mental overhead when you play? What does your regular solo game look like from a physical setup pov? Do you have a separate digital and analog set up? You mentioned that the first version of mythic was written in a way that was personal to you, and so was a bit rough around the edges let’s say. I was wondering if you’ve considered writing some more personal articles about solo play in your magazine. In particular I’d love to read about how your long form writing makes you feel, what it feels like when you read it back, favourite stories/characters/events etc. This isn’t a question but rather a comment. From the interview there was one new idea I took away: add the rule system to the character list. I love the idea of learning a new system incrementally like this. I know there’s an article in the magazine about this but It’s got me wondering what other hacks can be added to the mythic lists. One of the most fascinating things about solo gaming is the methods, processes, tools and how they all mix in with the story context as it unfolds in such a magical way. Following hearing your comments in the interview and thinking about some questions for the AMA, I now have a theory that narrative should be if not more at the very least be equal in measure to the focus on game mechanics in solo. I think, faster play for me makes me focus on the mechanics while slower play lets me savour the narrative. You mentioned in the interview that you’ve tried lots of different methods. If you reflect back, what are your thoughts on faster versus slower play and the balance of game mechanics and the narrative? One final question: Can you tell us about the longest running solo game you’ve played? I will be returning to long form script writing of my solo adventures. So thank you for your comment in the interview that prompted me to reflect on this.

2024-10-11 10:12:16 +0000 UTCWow! The Brazilian Portuguese version is coming. Very cool! Do you draw inspiration from script theory or literary theory to create mythic or TAC mechanics? If so, which ones? What’s your favorite pizza flavor?

2024-10-09 00:01:34 +0000 UTCWow, these are great questions! When I pull a question for the podcast, I want to be surprised and answer it cold, so I won't be preparing for any of these. However, I may pause my mic if I need to look something up or give a more detailed answered.

2024-10-08 19:47:59 +0000 UTCAny plans to license out the Mythic system to RPG Publishers and Adventure Writers who would like to use it to offer solo and GM-less play in their own products?

2024-10-08 18:31:11 +0000 UTCHi Tana, my question is if there are plans to make official translations of the publications into Spanish? I've been following you for a short while now, and I think all your work is great! I've been using the material in different ways in games, but sometimes it's a limitation that many players in the community don't know the material and the main barrier is the language.

2024-10-08 01:44:04 +0000 UTCTana my question is have you thought about doing a "crafter" book, compiling all the crafter books into one compilation and maybe expanding on them or adding new ones?

2024-10-07 23:01:24 +0000 UTCHave you ever tried or given thoughts to non-die systems? Like cards or ways to generate outcomes?

2024-10-07 22:43:27 +0000 UTCI was wondering how Mythic 2e can be used for running factions and interplay between them, even when the characters aren't directly involved.

2024-10-07 22:42:13 +0000 UTCWhat is your favorite rpg system to accompany with Mythic by genre? Are there house rules you like to put into play to make them fit better? Have you ever use Fudge or Fudge adjacent systems with Mythic? I totally see Fudge vanilla working quite well with it myself.

2024-10-07 22:38:05 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if this will come up in a future Mythic Magazine or not, but I'm curious about more specific element tables for *objects*, or even The Object Crafter. It's perhaps a weakness for me when discovering meaning. I suppose one could determine function based off of the action meaning table and descriptors based on the object element table, but I'd love something more specific for certain genres, like 'blaster pistol' or 'amulet'. How do you approach it?
