Greetings Mythicists! I hope all is well with you and your games :)
I don't have a lot of news since the last Progress Journal, but I have a couple of bits to say. The art above, by the way, is by the always amazing Jorge Muñoz. That will be in a future Mythic Magazine. It looks like something that would work well for a Big Example. That guy is clearly not having the best day.
Okay, so here's what's new since my last post!
The Adventure Crafter's Many Forms
I've been working on making more POD options available for The Adventure Crafter on DriveThruRPG. For the longest time it's just been available as a premium color hardcover, and black and white softcover. Most of my other books utilize all of DTRPG's color options, so I figured The Adventure Crafter should too.
There are now softcover versions in standard and premium color, and a standard color hardcover is on the way!
What's In The Oven?
These are the next three projects that are in the works, in order of scheduling priority:
Mythic Roleplaying Second Edition
Micro Mythic
Mythic Magazine Compilation #7
When I work on new books I tend to work on three at a time, so those are the current three. Is it weird that I gamify what I work on for the day? When deciding which of the three to focus on, I will sometimes roll a d10. 1-5 is project #1, 6-8 is project #2, and 9-10 is project #3. It seems fitting to me that the production of roleplaying game books follows roleplaying game rules :)
Mythic GME 2e Offset Press Edition
I finally have my ducks (dice?) in a row to get a high quality, offset press edition of Mythic Game Master Emulator Second Edition printed! The printer is PrintNinja and the distributor is Indie Press Revolution. Both have been great to work with.
I'm doing a press run of a 1,000 copies, each book shrink wrapped for maximum protection. They also have one of those ribbony tassel bookmark things, because I just couldn't pass up having that in the book :)
This is kind of an experiment to get into the world of offset printing. I'd like to do this with more books since it allows for the best quality version of a book to exist, even if it is in limited numbers. It also allows for game stores to stock my stuff. I've received numerous inqueries from game stores who want Mythic GME 2e on their shelves, and I just don't have a good option for them. Now, I can just direct them to Indie Press and they can order what they need.
The book will likely retail for $45.95, which puts it at a price point just a little bit under the high quality POD editions.
Mythic Magazine #46
The next issue of the magazine is under construction! This issue has a star system generator in it, and suggestions for running found journal and found footage style solo adventures. The space man running from a volcano, shown above, is meant for the star system article. Always be careful when exploring a lava planet!
Both articles are fun to write. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole when it comes to generating names for stars and planets, creating 6 tables to get it done! I think they produce very starry and planet-sounding names, so the work was worth it :)
The found journal article has some crunchy bits to it, but it's more about how to get the flavor of the found journal genre into a solo adventure. As a literary genre, I really enjoy the found journal concept. A lot of HP Lovecraft's stories follow this motif, and it's just such an interesting idea to me to replicate that as a solo adventure. This isn't solo journaling, although it will have some aspects of that. I would say this is more of a solo play style.
Found In Translation
There are a number of publishers across the globe who have asked me if they could publish translated versions of Mythic GME 2e who I've said yes to. This is a process, just like producing any book is, but it looks like a couple of them are just about done with production and are closing in on printing.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say who the publishers are yet since I don't know if they've announced a release date to their communities, so I'll hold off reporting on that just now. This is probably unnecessary, but working with translation publishers is new to me and I just want to make sure I'm respecting their workflows. I'll check with them about when I can talk more fully about it, and especially when they have links up.
Not that I can read any of them since I'm not literate in the languages, but it's fascinating seeing the book produced by others!
I think that's it for now. Looks like I had a few things to say after all! lol
Happy adventuring :)
