Article ideas, what do you think?

Greetings Tier-3 Mythicists! Mythic Magazine #45 is almost done, so it'll be posting soon. Before I launch the next content poll, I wanted to check and see if any of you have ideas for articles you've been pondering but haven't mentioned publicly.

I have no shortage of article ideas at the moment, with maybe 30 or 40 in the current list. However, I'm always on the hunt for new takes on solo play or hearing what Mythicists are thinking about and wanting.

When I think of an idea, or read something in a forum online where someone mentions an idea, I record just about every one of them. So please, feel free to comment below with any article ideas you have. This can include revisiting previous ideas that are repeatable, like another Kozen Crest style adventure or more Meaning Tables.

I really like how the evolution of Mythic is a community effort. It's been like that from the very beginning, where Mythic players have actively shaped the system, and I love that it's still the case today :)

Thank you in advance! And, happy adventuring :)

That sounds interesting, an Organization Crafter. Can you tell me more about what you would expect it to do? The Villain Crafter in issue #41 included creating an organization for the villain, but it didn't go into much detail. So you're thinking a full system for the functioning of an organization?

Tana Pigeon

Organization/Fortress management. It could beautifully compliment games such as Reign.

I just printed out all these ideas and added them to the idea pile. I keep a folder of sheets of paper with article concepts on them. I like to randomize the selection of the poll options, so I shuffled these new ideas into the deck. Yes, I think of the future article ideas as a deck of cards! lol I like that making Mythic Magazine is a game unto itself :)

Tana Pigeon

Thank you Tom, great ideas :) That's interesting that you use Mythic for map making. How do you go about doing that?

Tana Pigeon

I utilize Mythic for map creation, which has been an enjoyable endeavor for some time. While the crafter is available, using Mythic solely for map making also provides a delightful experience. 2. An amendment for exploding dice in the Mythic RPG (red book) set could introduce a new dynamic. 3. Additionally, I support the inclusion of "modern/future/sci-fi" examples or content. 4. Mythic used for making factions/colonies/groups is always welcomed. Just a few thoughts that I deal with in my game play.

That brings us to 22 new article ideas! That's just about two years worth of Mythic Magazines. Please keep the ideas coming, though, if you have one. These all have to battle 10 at a time in the content poll. Kind of a cage match for ideas. So, the more ideas to send into the ring the better!

Great ideas Geoff :) I've been working on a Safety Tools section for Mythic RPG 2e and Micro Mythic, so the timing of this suggestion is good. I've been putting some thought into how it applies to solo play. I recall that discussion in the Discord, I followed it with some interest. I'll add that idea to the list! That's an intriguing concept. I might frame it as more of a genre. Call it ... remote conversations, maybe? If you think about it, it kind of is a genre unto itself. You have a late night call in show like you mention, but I'm also thinking of things like communicating with people in a distant spacecraft, sending notes in bottles back and forth from a deserted island, or any other situation where contact is strictly limited to one form of communication. That could make for a really interesting mode of play. This might more be a variant of the Mythic as a Journaling Game, since it feels like it would fit in that format well. Idea added to the list!

A couple of ideas spring to mind: 1. An article about player safety in solo games. There was a thread on the Discord where a member talked about being very sensitive, and was worried about the game tables spinning off into territory that would upset them. It would be cool to see an examination of how to prevent this from happening. This might incorporate a discussion on "setting the dials" before play starts to determine how intense things can get, or what subjects will or won't come up in the random events, etc. 2. While it is probably possible to do this building off the slice-of-life article in MM44, and the random tables, how about a setup where the player is a DJ at a late night radio talk show, and the scenes are based around each caller who calls in and whatever they want to talk about, especially if things get a little weird at times (like they're talking about supernatural experiences, or what have you).

I'd like to see the 3-Act Structure expanded into a 5-Act Structure for longer, more complex narratives.

All of these ideas are fantastic, wow :) I just posted this a few hours ago, and I have ... (counting) ... 19 article ideas to add to the content poll list.

I never get tired of making behavior/action systems, there's just so much you can do with it. This is a good idea, a cohesive system to manage combatants around you as you focus on your PC's combat. That would make solo roleplaying an entire party much easier.

Tana Pigeon

Wow, fantastic ideas! On the list they go :)

Tana Pigeon

A system that will handle my other party members in combat and the NPCs/Monsters they are fighting so I can just focus on my character and who they are fighting.

1. Kozen Crest was/is awesome. Maybe a way on how you can create your own Kozen Crest or convert a published adventure into that format. Or combine it with the 3 act structure in magazine 42. 2. Themes for the 3 act structure (horror, fantasy, zombie etc.) 3. I'm always a fan of a super big examples as well. 4. You could guest feature patreon users or others stories to see how they are using the various systems and Jorge could illustrate some key scenes. 5. You could feature artists that drew up some of their stories or characters. 6. Maybe an actual play with a popular RPG (Forbidden Lands, Mothership, Aliens, Knave, The One Ring etc. ) 7. Forget if you did an article on this. But how to play Mythic on the go. What to put in your Mythic Travel Kit. This might tie into the Micro Mythic one pagers that you are creating. Or thoughts on how to make it compact enough to play while waiting in a waiting room. 8. One thought is maybe taking Mythic outdoors and creating an adventure based off your surroundings. So creating threads/ characters and random words from what you see and interact with. That one is out there but just a thought that streamed in :)

I really like using the MGE2 as a game unto itself, but I am also a big sci-fi fan so anything like populated solar systems (TLC), alien culture generation (maybe flavored tables), some rules for body swapping (for your post singularity fans; here I am thinking of the emotional shock of becoming something your brain says you aren't), or any other sci-fi/sci-fantasy leaning concepts. I am just throwing darts at a wall here, so I am not sure how useful any of this would be to the general public.

Some cyberpunk hacker suggestions for creating programs, and systems to explore, in a just mythic game would be cool. I guess system architecture would be a locator topic, but coding hacker programs sounds to me like it could be a variation on the magic system articles.
