Progress Journal, May 19, 2024
Added 2024-05-19 23:47:50 +0000 UTCGreetings Mythicists! I hope your month is moving along smoothly, and your Player Characters are doing well :)
The Podification Of Things
Among stuff going on, I've had some progress with getting print editions appearing. Mythic Magazine Compilation #5 got the POD treatment on DriveThruRPG with softcover and hardcover editions.
I experimented with this one, releasing the softcover at one point, and the hardcover a couple of weeks later. In the past I've always released them all at the same time. While I liked making them available as early as possible, I feel like staggering their release caused some problems. Minor problems, but problems all the same. For instance, it meant that I had to release discount codes to PDF buyers twice instead of once. I try to avoid unnecessarily emailing you all when I can, so doubling up on an email isn't ideal. We shall see, but next time I will likely go back to releasing soft and hardcover editions at the same time.
Mythic RPG 2e Glee
You're probably sick of hearing this, but ... work on Mythic RPG 2e continues! I feel like I say this every time with a Progress Journal. I probably do, because it's true every time lol
I'm still working on the Characters chapter, which I am focusing a lot of attention on. Right now, I'm working on the section where you assign Descriptors and Ranks to your Character in generation. I'm liking the blend of freeform "make what you want" with point buy and randomization, if you want it.
App Fade To Black
The Mythic 2e phone app, unfortunately, is no longer available. At least, not at the moment. The developer had to close shop ... for good reasons, nothing bad ... but that left the app in limbo. I'm looking to find another developer to pick it up, and the app's designer is very supportive of helping to make this happen. So, the app will be back!
Compilation #6
Mythic Magazine Compilation #6 is almost ready to roll out! This includes issues 31 to 36. I'm excited because that brings us close to being caught up with the individual issues, and I've chronically been way behind with the Compilations in the past.
It will probably come out in June. If I gave it a push, it could come out in May, but I don't want it following too closely on the POD release of #5.
Mythic GME 2e Offset Edition
My plan to make a high quality, offset press edition of Mythic GME 2e stalled at the beginning of this year as I got swamped with other priorities, but it is still on my project map. It's one of those things I just want to do, if nothing else. I would really love to see the highest quality version of the book possible! Plus, it would be oddly thrilling to have a copy of the book with one of those little satin bookmarks dangling from it :) I've been actively working lately on getting this edition ready. It's been more work than I original anticipated because most images in the book have to be color corrected. Offset printing is less forgiving of things like ink saturation and really fine registration issues. It's coming along, though!
Compilation Of One-Pagers, Maybe??
So, let me get your feedback on this one. I want to do a special Compilation that just has all of the One-Page rulesets in them. If I did this, it would include new Big Examples, and some other new material about ways to tie the various rulesets together.
My question to you ... is this a good thing? The One-Pagers are already available in individual magazine issues. They can be found in various Compilations. One-Page Mythic even has its own, standalone treatment. So is a special One-Page Compilation overkill? And if not, what else could I include with it to make it more special?
An Engraved Wood GM Screen Would Be Cool
I went to a festival thing this weekend and ran into wood engravers who clearly are into roleplaying too. They had made a GM screen out of engraved wood, and it was very cool. I chatted with them, and now I want them to make a three panel screen, of wood, engraved with the Fate Chart, the Event Focus Table, and the most important Meaning Tables. Plus, slots at the bottom to hold books and a clip at the top to hold individual sheets of paper. So yeah, it's more than a GM screen, it would be useful as an organizer for solo play too.
If I do this, I'll show pictures of it. See what you all think.
I'll take this opportunity to thank you all for not just reading this far, but for being a Mythicist Patreon member :) Player support has made Mythic possible from day one, and that continues to this day! I'm grateful for your patronage, and I'm also happy that this has always felt like a group endeavor to me. I really enjoy chatting with you all, and your thoughts have gone a long way to shaping the direction Mythic evolves in. Thank you! :)
That is all for now! Happy adventuring :)

Yes, yes, yes! One pagers all together would be absolutely awesome!

2024-05-24 08:25:15 +0000 UTCThey are already out in the wild, in Mythic Magazine and a Compilation. I'm just considering doing another Compilation of just the One-Pagers.

2024-05-20 15:38:14 +0000 UTCI thought One Page Adventure Crafter was already released as was One Page Mythic? As for Compilations: Yes. With flowcharts? And an example or two that shows how to combine some of them.

2024-05-20 09:44:59 +0000 UTCI'm loving all of this love for a One-Pager Compilation :) Okay, I feel like this has to be done. But I don't want it to JUST be a collection of the One-Pagers, it needs more, like what's discussed above. I think this would make it unique in its own way and more useful and fun. Now I'm getting excited about this lol

2024-05-20 05:43:38 +0000 UTCFor me too, the collection of one pagers would be an excellent idea.

2024-05-20 05:33:58 +0000 UTCYes, I'd also love a compilation of the one-pagers with extras.

2024-05-20 05:31:54 +0000 UTCFor a compilation of one-pagers, I would personally add the following to it: 1) The rules guide from MM#27, to help point to other magazines/books to look to for when people want to expand from the one-pagers to something bigger (updated for the latest issues of course) 2) Unless I missed it, a one-page Event Crafter based on MM#24 3) Flowcharts ala MM#4 and MM#14 4) Some specialized tables from MM#18 This would make a fairly comprehensive mini-book with plenty of opportunity to expand into the full system.

2024-05-20 01:33:56 +0000 UTCI made my own compilation of 1 pagers, and it is incredibly useful. I use it for all my solo plays, now. I use GMeE 2e, plus the 3 non-core 1-pagers for home play. For travel, I use all the 1-pagers. I'd absolutely love to see an official release of that style thing. I think a lot of people would be on board. I could see that becoming a DTRPG best-seller, honestly. As for the offset print MGME 2e, my heart says yes, but my wallet says "oh, please, god, no." My heart wins.

2024-05-20 00:57:46 +0000 UTCCount me in for a compilation of one-pagers as well. Playing solo, I don't have a ton of use for a GM screen but agree it'd be very cool.

2024-05-20 00:14:53 +0000 UTCI love the idea of a compilation of one-pagers. Sure, they exist in various compilations, but having them all in one spot would be VERY convenient.

2024-05-20 00:12:30 +0000 UTCI'd LOVE the One Pagers comp with big examples, and having a section of optional "plug-in" rules you can add back in would also be great, like how GURPS has a bunch of little optional rules.
