Mythic Magazine #41 Content Poll!

I love this time of month! The time when the power is placed into the hands of the Mythicists to decide what will be in the next issue of Mythic Magazine. What am I going to be writing about? I don't know! And I love that :)

I've decided to make a change in how the poll is conducted. So far, I've included ideas representative of 4 Variations, 2 What Ifs, 2 Interrupts, and 2 Tool Boxes. Variations got the most nods since it tended to have the most crunchy rulesets and received the most attention. However, I've noticed over the last year or so that attention has slowly drifted from Variations and more into some of the other categories, like Tool Box. I think Variations type article ideas still get the most votes, but I don't want to assume anymore that it should always be the most represented.

So, I'm going to go through my rotating list of article ideas each month as I've been doing, but I'll let the number of categories be chosen by the ideas that come up, as long as each category has at least 2 entries. That means the number of categories represented will likely shift each month, with each one appearing anywhere from 2 to 4 times.

With that said, let us start! As usual, please feel free to choose as many selections below as you like. I will go with the top 2 vote-getters that fall into separate article categories.

Let the battle of ideas begin! ... hmm, wish I had some kind of big, impressive gong to strike or something. Here, I'll knock on my desk. Not as cinematic or dramatic as a gong, but it's the thought that counts :)

I am definitely looking forward to the player emulator, as it could be a great solution for an absent player instead of the GM just playing them (with permission, of course). Hopefully it will have rules for different player types/personalities like the GM Personality rules from an earlier magazine (like the power gamer, the murderhobo, the metagamer, the team player, etc).

That's an interesting idea. So the Player is more spectator, interpreting results but letting all decisions, on both sides of the GM/Player line, being decided by the oracle.

I just had a thought inspired by the upcoming Tiny Epic Cthulhu. Its player count is 0-4. Yes, playable by 0 players. This is because it has two solo modes - one where the bot controls the cultists and you try to stop them, and a second one where you control the cultists and the bot tries to stop you. By using both bots, the game can thus be played by zero players,only bot vs. bot. What if we combined the GME with a player emulator? An rpg that is played by zero players? I find the thought quite intriguing.

Well, the Player Emulator was a no-brainer - I immediately put the tick there. But there are lots of juicy things - albeit underappreciated, it seems (^_^;; I had to spread 5 ticks over it, and only 5 thanks to saying that I am fine with using the full magazine stuff for the dungeon crawler. Otherwise it would have been 6 (^_^;;

I want all the topics lol.

It's the idea of using Mythic to replace players while you play as the Game Master. You could do this, for instance, to play through a published adventure as the GM, and simulate how a group of players would act and respond to things. It's an interesting flip side to normal Mythic play. Instead of not knowing what the adventure is about and discovering it, you do know what the adventure is about and the fun is watching the Mythic run players try to figure it out themselves.

Hmm, do I understand what Mythic as a player emulator means?

Mythic as a player Emulator is something I do pretty frequently so would love to see an article about that!

The vote pattern has immediately hit upon a synergy I hadn't considered. Mythic as player emulator and the villain crafter are both leading right now. Those two articles would go well together, if you use Mythic as a player emulator where you are the GM and you use the villain crafter to help set up your game. Having complete and prior knowledge of the villain is a plus here, since you want to see how the players handle it.
