Meaning Table Collections

Hello Tier 3 Mythicists!

I'm looking for your input about an upcoming Mythic Magazine article. The next issue, #40, will feature an article with collections of Meaning Tables in them. These are meant to be very focused Meaning Tables that go together, allowing for even more granular results. For instance, one collection will likely be Murder Mysteries. This would include Meaning Tables such as Clues, Crime Scene, Suspects, Murder Weapon, etc. A Dungeons collection may include Dungeon Environment, Traps, Monsters, Treasure, Dungeon Background, etc.

The idea is to not just have a single Meaning Table for a subject, but to divide that subject further and offer a number of Meaning Tables that can all be used together.

So my question to you is, what other collections do you think should be included? I was also considering a collection for Cities, Planets, and Spaceships. If you have an idea for a collection, please post it below.

Happy adventuring! :)

These are all great ideas, thank you and keep them coming!

I don't know if this is quite what you mean, but a set of different tables for different kinds of quests would be helpful. Like, a table for "escort missions", one for "heists", one for "infiltration/espionage", "hunting down" a missing person, group or object, one for "crafting" certain objects or magical items, etc

I would say "Outcomes." Something that could be used to add more emphasis to a result. Like "Good/Fortunate" or "Bad/Unfortunate." Could be used when you want to add more to an extreme result or something.

Just a quick brainstorm: Factions - leadership, goals, methods, Shady goings-on (non-murder crimes), Romance/friendships - ties, complications, destiny, Significant objects - history, design, creator, who desires it, Detailed Visions - what is foretold, consequences (good/bad), complications, flavour Detailed debilitations - effects, cause, cure, Region - politics, economy, religion, military, society

Yes exactly!

So ... collections by genre could be applied to the type of RPG you're playing with. A different collection for a different type of RPG.

Hmm, that's not exactly what I had in mind, but I'm interested. Do you mean collections of tables themed by genre? For instance, a Heroic Fantasy collection may include tables like Villain, Powerful Artifact, Kingdom In Distress, Quests, Dungeon Encounters, Wilderness Encounters, Travel Occurrences, etc. That kind of thing?

Tana Pigeon

Seconding this! Genre-based tables would be amazing 🤩

For starters I think you should have categories for different types of TTRPG genres such as heroic fantasy, sci-fi, Cyberpunk, horror, post apocalyptic, historical, steampunk, urban fantasy, super hero, mystery/Detective, espionage, western.
