Progress Journal, February 2024
Added 2024-02-12 19:42:32 +0000 UTCGreetings Mythicists! I hope all is well with you, and that your solo adventures have been exciting!
Work continues on Mythic Roleplaying Second Edition, and I'm happy with how it's going. I find myself tinkering with the GME elements of it more and more, to make it fit just right with the RPG elements. A portion of it that I'm very happy with at the moment is a slightly new take on the Fate Check. I think this version of it is closer to how Fate Questions function on the chart, with nearly identical percentage chances. Or at least, closer than the earlier iterations of the Fate Check.
Where MGME2e presented the core system then a wide range of optional add-ons, MRPG2e is focusing on just what is considered core. There are some variations, but I want this book to be streamlined and present mechanics that are considered those you cannot live without. I think it's making for a fairly tight ruleset where everything is clear, the mechanics all have a well-understood place, and there are a ton of options that are well integrated into the overall system. At least, that's my hope.
I'm working on Mythic Magazine #39, which will have articles on long-term social interactions with NPCs, and a collection of detailed flowcharts for MGME2e. The social interactions system is something I'd been thinking about for a long time. It's sort of an NPC behavior generator, but instead of focusing on what an NPC does specifically right now it focuses on NPCs who have evolving behavior that is motivated by something. This is meant to lead to NPCs eventually acting on their motivations after a time. The idea is to simulate the kind of complicated, evolving social interactions we see between characters in shows and books, especially ones that revolve around character interactions.
I'm waiting on the proof print copies of Mythic Magazine Compilation #4 from DTRPG. If those look good once they come in, the POD version of the book should go live within a few weeks.
I haven't started work yet on Mythic Magazine Compilation #6, although I expect that to begin next month. Also, the POD version of MMC#5 should start work next month.
I've been slowly updating the Resources section of the Word Mill Games website, adding more actual plays, tutorials, and reviews. I'm also making it a priority to get more downloadable files onto the Resources page, especially form-fillable PDF files of sheets and forms.
I'm hoping to add chats to the Patreon group. Right now, Patreon's chat functionality is mostly limited to the mobile app, but it should be expanding across desktop as well. Once it does, I will open it up to allow for more back and forth discussions on the Patreon page. I primarily want to do this to allow for the creation of threads specific to individual Mythic Magazine articles and rules, so players can share their experiences and discuss suggestions for using the mechanics as well as share house rules.
I think that is all for now! Good fortune in your games and to your Player Characters, and happy adventuring!

I’m kinda happy MRPG2e will be more focused on the core. MGME2e is kind of imposing compared to 1e due to its scale - even though much of that is Variations and Tables, it still hits different than when broken out into other books.

2024-04-22 00:14:43 +0000 UTCOh yes, the Fate Chart lives on. That would just be wrong to ditch it. It has some slight visual modifications, in that different choices of Chaos Factor influence is an option so that's shown on the main chart. Basically, combining the Fate Chart in MGME2e with its Chaos variants. But the values inside the chart remain the same, as I want it to be compatible with MGME2e. The Fate Check gets an overhaul, and it's presented as an equal to the Fate Chart as opposed to a variation, although that's splitting hairs since you're going to choose one or the other. Or actually, you could use both in the same game, the percentages are close enough now that it really wouldn't matter. That's my long-winded way of saying, LONG LIVE THE FATE CHART!

2024-02-14 17:31:50 +0000 UTCGreat to hear about both the upcoming NPC interactions and the RPG 2E. Although you have me worried there. There will be a fate chart for the rpg, right? Pretty, pretty please 🥺 When I think of Mythic, the core image for me as that chart that unlocks the mysteries of the upcoming adventures.

2024-02-13 22:13:55 +0000 UTCI know what you mean. This is something that's been on my mind for quite some time. I'm hoping this system helps address it. There's lots of ways of going about doing this, but I'm focusing on a few simple key things, like NPC motivations. Then, letting those motivations kind of morph over time in response to things the NPC experiences. At some point, the NPC is going to act on those developing motivations, and that act then leads to more changes in motivations. And so on. I'm shooting for something where there is a static aspect to the NPC's personality, something they're rooted in, but also a changing and evolving aspect, like how everyone changes over time. And keep it all simple so it's a workable system. We'll see!

2024-02-13 02:53:59 +0000 UTCThank you :) I will very likely post bits and pieces of it as I go here on the Patreon as monthly previews for Tier 3 Mythicists. I've already started doing that, so you should expect more to come. I try to do that when I'm pretty sure something is at or near its finished form, although it may still change later.
