Mythic Magazine #37

Greetings and happy New Year, Mythicists! 2023 was quite the year, with Mythic Game Master Emulator Second Edition coinciding with Mythic's 20th anniversary.

2023 isn't done yet, though. Here we are with the final Mythic Magazine of the Year, volume #37. This issue includes:

Troupe Style Solo Adventures: Suggestions for running a group of Characters with a common goal, where you choose which Player Character you want to control in each Scene.

Solo Roleplay In Video Games: Bring your solo roleplaying skills into your favorite immersive video games to add whole new layers of custom narrative and gameplay potential.

Happy adventuring!

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! I know what you mean about your PC getting lonely, mine do too lol It's a really nice roleplaying element to develop relationships with recurring characters. I think this article helps make those characters more central without overloading you as a Player. I hope your adventure goes well!

1. This system only suggests switching characters before the scene starts, so you wouldn't do it in the middle of a scene during a combat. If you start a scene with a combat in progress you would switch perspectives to the new character you control and the other members of the troupe would become NPCs. As far as combat in general, the rules only cover the Mythic side of things. It's assumed you're playing the game with your chosen RPG using its combat rules. The core Mythic rules talk about suggestions for controlling NPCs, so I didn't go too much into that in this article. 2. I'm considering it. Whether I do or not may depend on how big the book gets. But it's definitely an idea I'm keeping on the table for now.

Happy new year :)

I've never thought about playing video games enhanced with solo RP like this. It's interesting, maybe I'll give it a try next time I play something like Fallout :) But I almost always play with more than one PC, so I've been waiting for this article since it was announced. My PC's "get lonely" if I don't have more than one! (By that, I mean I like roleplaying developing relationships too much and my adventures feel empty without giving my PC a trusted, capable companion to interact with and occasionally clash with.) Right now I have an RP going with two different mage characters and the primary character's cat familiar, but they still need a warrior type before they venture too hard into combat. So I imagine that character will be of the "Supporting Character" type. This was a really fun read, and I liked the Big Example a lot!

Happy New Year everyone! Two questions about this new volume: 1. How do you handle combat when switching characters? How do you manage NPCs? I mean actions, turns, damage... 2. I see Tomb Breakers! appears again, this time as a videogame. Are you thinking about adding settings in Mythic RPG 2e? Something in the style of Fate or Basic Roleplaying.

Thanks Stark :) It feels good to end the year with a little solo roleplaying!
