Greetings Tier 3 Mythicists! Halloween arrives early this year with a preview of the upcoming One-Page Creature Crafter in the next Mythic Magazine. This is what this very simplified version of The Creature Crafter is looking like right now. This may change some by the time the issue comes out at the end of the month.
I've been playtesting this and having a blast :) In my most recent play test an away team group from a starship is exploring a hot, volcanically active planet. They encounter an alien creature I generated with the One-Page Creature Crafter. It started as a tall, spidery thing slowly rising out of a river of lava (Descriptors of "Warm", "Delicate", "Steaming" and Initial Behavior of "Moving, traveling"). It seems the creature bathes in the lava as a way of healing and powering itself, because as the away team watched the thing seemed to absorb the heat it was soaked in and grew taller and stronger (New Behavior of "The creature exhibits an Ability", Abilities Table results of "Heal", "Strength", "Fire"). The away team watched this with alarm, weapons aimed at it but unsure whether the creature was hostile or not. Waiting to see what it would do, the creature (New Behavior result of "The creature exhibits an Ability" and Abilities Table results of "Defense" and "Emission") suddenly vents out a cloud of steamy vapor, creating a thick fog all around them. This seems to be a defense strategy, now the team can't see it in the fog! While they try to locate where the creature has gone, I check for a new behavior to see what it does now. (New Behavior of "The creature acts as you expect ..." and I expect it to ...) The creature attacks one of the away team members, going at them with a bite. (Generating stats for the creature, treating this like old school D&D rules, I determine its Hit Dice for attack purposes is probably 4, I roll "What you expect" from the Creature Statistics table so 4 it is. I do the same for damage, figuring it probably does 1d12 damage. I roll "25% lower" on the Statistics Table so I lower this to 1d10).
I can never get enough of monsters :)
Happy adventuring!
